Today went to local TSC (never have time for anything these days!) Bought 3 different bags, I have never purchased a bag of Pellets in my 9 years of ownership. LOL. They were loaded with Pellets by the ton and bag. Fresh Ton of Minute Man brought out, so I bought one of them, one inferno gold and my first hard wood (pure fire is the brand, made by bio max.). Couple other Pellet junkies there we were sharing tips. Spoke with fork lift guy who was telling me I was buying softwood. I told him quietly that is all I usually buy. And he quietly agreed, that a good softwood pellet really can rock. Look forward t warm weather but then testing these new bags out. Vermonts cranking now and time for some beef and Cab Sauv!
Nice one, look at that you are hooked! Sounds like they have started to dip into the manager's secret overflow stash from behind the store...Love to get your thoughts on the test bags you bought! FYI - Those Pure Fires are softies too... If you want a good solid hardwood to try, grab some of the Lignetics (if they will let you take some by the bag).
Out here LIGS are all softwood, just like the OAKIES you guys get back there are different than what is out here.
Well I popped in the Minute man (about 1/2 bag ) On Sunday night. To soon to tell, but they do not feed as quick as the Vermont's (seem to be a bit bigger in size and darker) and the heat does not seem to be there. ( I kept the same draft and temp setting as Vermont's) Wife already started it tonight (So I can go home have a cocktail at 10 (love 13 hour days) and relax. So I do not know the ash situation. Not a cold day pellet in my first observation, but will not fully judge yet... .
My results agree. The Minute Man pellets are not as hot as Vermonts. What did you find out about those Pure Fires? The bag doesn't specify hard or soft wood does it? The few test bags I got don't.
I must add that I will be cleaning out stove later today after work, but the minute man burned pretty good last night (not that cold though), ash seems on the fine side, and will see what kind of clinkers I get. Would rank them as a good shoulder pellet and may consider buying them in bulk.
I am burning the MinuteMan pellets as we speak. About ten bags in and so far they are not bad. I would say they are average heat and ash ( but more ash than I would expect out of a Softwood ). There are no Clinkers or build up in my burn pot. Generally pleased and would buy more.
I'm 6 bags in on the Mi Man's as well. Being a pellet newbie I've nothing to compare them too. However, I can concur, no clinkers and they seem to burn well with little ash.... And the price is right.
They sound pretty decent, thanks for keeping us filled in. Now if we could find some, Don't think youz guyz ( ) left any for us!!
I did my usual stop and was surprised they has about 8 bags of Sure Fire. The rest were NA's and GS's! Well at least they have pellets.
