    FYI:

    Nov 4, 2014:

" Five of the seven states that saw Senate seats go from Democrats to Republicans drew more than 50 percent of registered voters Tuesday,
while nationwide only 36.6% of registered voters cast ballots."

Not so fast. We're dealing with a law that sounds fairly decent and then implementing it with laziness, bias, and policy decisions that may not be what the electeds intended. Remember that us woodburners are a minority. A dirty poor minority. It is politically correct to reduce pollution at the expense of the underfunded and dirty minority.

Nobody is fighting for us. We will never win the majority vote needed to fix the problem.

Yeah I remember the first oil 'shortage' in 73 and again in 79/80, driving up to NH/Me to go skiing and any time there was no wind the air being just horrible and feeling sorry for any one with asthma or breathing troubles. All those old smoke dragons and green wood in reaction to oil prices were pretty bad.
Not too thrilled with prices of EPA stoves but I do what I can to burn as clean as I can.
I'd rather heat my house for a day or two with electricity than go without the car as an option.

Here is the email I got from them today

STAGE 2 BURN BAN CALLED FOR KING COUNTY

Burn ban lifted in Snohomish County, Stage 2 remains in Pierce County

Due to continued weather conditions and air pollution levels, the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency is updating burn bans for the following:

    • Issuing a Stage 2 burn ban for King County, effective today at 12 PM
    • Maintaining a Stage 2 burn ban in Pierce County
    • Lifting the burn ban for Snohomish County, effective today at 12 PM
Burn bans will be lifted as of 6 AM tomorrow, November 20th.

The front expected this evening is showing rain and winds that will clear the air. However, daytime winds will not be sufficient to significantly reduce pollution levels in King and Pierce counties, especially in areas where wood burning is common.

Snohomish County is expected to have earlier daytime winds sufficient enough to reduce pollution levels, allowing the burn ban to be lifted as of noon today.

The purpose of a burn ban is to reduce the amount of pollution that is creating unhealthy air usually due to excessive wood smoke. The Clean Air Agency will continue to closely monitor the situation.

so lets punish the folks burning the green wood in the smoke dragons or epa stoves for that matter, not the people burning in epa stoves with no smoke coming out of chimney

Hey I'd like to make coal burners, smoke dragons and tobacco smokers give it up first too but I don't know how you'd enforce that.

Edit: maybe lump the wacky weed smokers in with all wood burners ? :coffee:

Much of the pollutants measured come from cars & trucks. (Diesels & older vehicles are the worst.)
Might be well over 50% is from vehicles.
They aren't' stopping the operation all (or any) internal combustion engines .
The "Band-aid" approach doesn't solve the problem, air quality stays bad until the weather changes.
Weather moves in , wind blows, air quality improves. Not because Joe didn't burn his EPA , efficient wood stove. :)

The older diesel furnaces , are allowed to operate.
I bet Some of the new wood stoves burn cleaner than many furnaces.

Difficult to educate an incumbent :)
Impossible to educate an appointed, entrenched bureaucrat .

The regulations are made by bureaucrats. No one gets to vote for a bureaucrat.

Sounds like you have too many people out there. Period. Just don't allow any more people to move in!

I never could understand how a few hundred (?) people not burning wood could help. Classic "band aid" approach to problem. Guess it was something that they felt they would be able to regulate. I wonder what percentage of commuters have only one person in the car? Maybe regulate that for far greater results?
