anybody ever smoked beets? i dont do near as much smoking as i would like to but i did smoke some beets yesterday. they came out really great. went nice in an escarole salad with some asiago cheese and walnuts.
also, i never had fresh beets before, only the sliced ones in a can. what a difference!

Sorry I'm discovering the greatness that is the Smokehouse little by little. I know this thread is old but I wanted to comment. Fresh beets are a thing of glory, they are sooooooo good, the ones in the can might as well be a different vegetable all together. I like to wrap fresh beets in tin foil and grill them in the coals of a fire like potatoes sometimes. I always prefer them roasted instead of boiling the color and flavor out of them. Nothing like a fresh warm beet. I bet they would be good with a little smokiness imparted on them. Bet they were great in that salad! coal reaper

I have never heard of such a thing. My knee jerk reaction was to gag a little but after I read the responses I am curious about the smoked beets.

Beets are good nutrition for retaining and building muscle in older men, like myself.

Been awhile for beets, not sure I have ever had them smoked either.
Beets in a salad would work for me, not sure I'd like em enough to eat alone

I always thought the taste of canned beets was akin to eating dirt.... Not that I ever ate... dirt. Smelled like it would taste, tho! Maybe now that I'm older the effect would be more like DIRT!

Or maybe I should just retry- it's been about 30 years:BrianK:!

C'mon you have to use the right language. The taste isn't like dirt, we just call that "earthy"
