Well I cleaned out and fired up the pellet stove.

    I am primarily a stick burner and didn't use the pellet stove too much last year but it was great. Just installed last winter and it was nice. It sits opposite side of the house from the wood stove so it's nice to balance out the house. I ordered a skid of pellets but didn't get them yet so I hadn't fired up the pellet stove. Then we get this crazy cold weather and my gas furnace croaks. We had the wood burner going but in a 2500sq ft house built in the 1800s it can't keep up on its own. Woke up to a house that was 50*. Brrrrr so I cleaned up the pellet stove while my wife ran to TSC to get a few bags to hold us over until the skid arrives. Fired her up 50/50 corn and pellets and she's rolling! With that and the wood stove going the house is slowly warming back up. American Wood Fibers any good? That's what TSC had.

    AWF are good, solid, middle of the road pellet....not the best, not the worst. I burned many tons.

    Solid pellet. I'd burn those all winter happily.

    My house was cold this morning too, except that my problem was that there were no pellets in the stove...I found the problem with the stove by looking in the mirror...:headbang:

    We have very similar set ups, pellet on this side of house, wood on other. Except no furnace. So far so good!

    Wood and Pellet combination is a sure fire winner!!

    As for the pellets? In our area? AWF, is a good pellet. Pro Pellet, Somersets, Presto-Logs, and American Wood Fiber are all good pellets around us. Those are our top 4 in my opinion. Not in that order either.

    The skid I'm getting delivered is sommerset, and I just picked up a truck load off corn to mix in with it. Corn is cheaper and my stove was designed for corn. Been running good, that pellet stove throws an amazing amount of heat.
