Got reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally sidetracked down in the basement this morning with my honey, and dove into a gazillion boxes/totes of old photos. Once it starts, we can't stop... Here's 3 you guys might like. 1990 winter cookout Dad with "Blackout" at the farm... about 75 years ago Dad bucking up firewood... with nephews... I wasn't born yet
Thanks for sharing Stinny... In the first pic, I would miss those days when the kids were that age... Great age to be with the kids. Some of those older pictures show how some folks dressed a little better back then.. Maybe a little more formal. Looks like you stem from a history of woodburners. I bet he would have appreciated a chainsaw back then.
Awesome pics stinny. Especially the real old ones of your dad. Sure am glad we have chainsaws and chit these days, I wouldn't last long doing it the old way
Nice pics. Sometimes I think in this digital age people forget how easy it is to erase a picture along with part of their history. I lost over 600 photos due to a virus or something on an old cell phone. I was upset to beat all cause I bet 99% were of the kids.
I agree Jet. We must have found maybe a thousand pics this morning in the totes. The counter on this iPhoto program says it's already got 6900 photos... and counting. (I think most are FHC ) We had a Dell desktop before and had about half of those pics on it when it kinda sorta died. Got lucky. I went to the Geek boys at Bestbuy and they sold us this little Mac HD that plugs into the Macbook. You computer guys would have zero problems with it I'm sure. I spent some torturous hours forcing myself to learn enough to save photos to it, and how to retrieve them as well. Now, at least, if this main computer dies, at least I've got all of the the firewood photos...
Thanks for sharing Stinnster! I hear ya on the pictures, once you open a box and see one, you want to see them all. And the worst part about digital is when something crashes or gets so old and you have to collect what you can from it and move on to the next best computer thingy.
My honey and I kept looking at pics of us 30 plus years ago, and kept makin' jokes all day bout'... what happened... We're just getting started... so many boxes to go. In all of it, there are many many more old B&W pics too. Older I get, the more I like this kind of stuff.
GF just went through this last week after her mother passed(big C known for 6months) she got some good pictures of her childhood, and her dad who passed when she was 18 pushing her and her twin sister on swings. I printed the few pictures we had of her mom and step-dad visiting us last year - she was really happy about that. My mom was diligent about sorting out pictures when myself and all the 7 siblings graduated high school - everyone got an album, I'll have to scan some of my younger fat kid photos from that book
Cool pics Stinny I lost a whole bunch of stuff when an external hard drive went poop on me, lots of pictures and furniture plans that I paid for, all kinds of stuff that was not saved anywhere else
The old woodshed end of the el on the main house. El's all gone now, replaced from the basement/fieldstones up with a brand new "home", by the new owners. That old woodshed, back in the 1800s, was right beside the kitchen (wood cook stove), with a livingrm/dining area in the front, 3 bedrooms upstairs... 20'x65' area... there was no colonial attached yet. It was in terrible shape when we sold the place. I have fond memories of times in that shed, with and without my Dad...
