When I started with him it was 1.5 yrs for full custom, but I made good use of the "Featured Inventory." But, even now, that is way backed up. My custom denim micarta KS-3 Pro Guide's Knife was a 2+ yr wait. BTW, I have bunch of "non-Dozier" hunting and game processing knives. My favorites are Wayne Hendrix, but I have several others'.

This is what you can do if you don't have children... It makes it much easier to be very selfish.

 

If we had kids, our priorities would definitely be different. But, life is what it is and you make the best of it.

 

Where was the seakayaking pic taken? Like the slabs of walnut crotch wood.

 

Kayaking on Southern NJ shore. Walnut slabs are for sale. I just have too much lumber around (great problem to have).
BTW, We visited Vancouver Island about 5 yrs ago in the spring, late March I think. Took the packet freighter from Port Alberni to Bamfield and stayed a couple of days. I think we were the only tourist in town. Then flew up to Tofino for couple of days. Absolutely our favorite trip ever. Looking forward to getting back there ASAP.

 

Port McNeill looks like it's up in the awesome, sparsely populated area of Vanc. Is. That's heaven for me and the wife.

 

Definitely sparsely populated. Next time come in late August and go whale watching out of Telegraph Cove or Port McNeill. Lots of kayaking going on then as well.

 

Bees are great! You really need to work on Aunt Joe. Most people confuse yellow jacket/wasp (nasty, aggressive, territorial buggers) with honey bees, that are totally uninterested in humans unless you are actively annoying them by either blocking their hive or have the hive open for inspection. Even if they get mad at you, all you have to do is take 3-4 steps away from the hive and they will leave you alone. The very best part about beekeeping is that they are essentially wild animals, so you really don't need to put in very much time or effort. They work hard all by themselves. Some people think they need to always be tweeking their bees and wind up putting way to much effort in. We prefer to do as little as possible. Between us, we call it Darwinian beekeeping, but when talking to others we call it "organic.";-)

 

I love the saws, but they definitely need more use. They look like a showroom in this pict.

 

You and I know that but using that with her has gotten me nowhere. And I've been at it for 5-6 years.

How many hives do you keep?

 

# of hives varies from 2-5 depending on our mood and if the bees cooperate. We've had decent luck avoiding winter kill and colony collapse, but it seems like every year one hive looses it's queen, tries to make a new one but winds up as a "laying worker" hive. This year we started with 4 hives in the spring, one went to laying worker, but we still harvested 150# from the other three, and we harvested early to let the bees stock up for winter. It was a very good year indeed.
