we go through this a few times every winter, usually lasts a few days max. just a PIA stage 1 is ok to burn if stove is epa certified, stage 2 no burning at all, unless your only source of heat. You have to have them come inspect your home and get a only source of heat waiver http://www.pscleanair.org/news/Pages/default.aspx http://www.pscleanair.org/priorities/woodheating/Pages/burnbans.aspx
When the government comes INTO my house to see if I'm obeying their orders,----- that will be a problem.
If you really are burning wood cleanly though and there is absolutely no visual smoke coming from your chimney, is there really any chance of getting caught anyway? I assume the 'smoke police' are looking for.... well, smoke. ?? Brian
my thoughts exactly, I have never seen anyone around looking for people burning, but according to their site they exist , think they count more on your neighbors turning you in, it is a $1000 fine if caught. I usually just open my air a bit more or burn North Idaho Fire logs when this is in effect as they put out almost no smoke, i always buy a bunch every season http://www.northidahoenergylogs.com/energylogs.php The ban got put on at 12 this afternoon, I found out about 2. was already burning. pine and maple, no smoke from my chimney, although my neighbors is smoking- he is a first year burner and i think he bought some wet wood as he is always smooking pretty good. I am sure he has no idea about the ban even though it will be on the news soon from the web site How do you know if I’m violating the burn ban? Where there is smoke, there is likely fire and non-compliance with the burn ban. Our agency inspectors are trained to read the density, or “opacity,” of smoke and to determine if visible smoke violates the state’s opacity laws. It is always illegal to generate excessive smoke, defined as 20 percent opacity or more for more than six consecutive minutes, even when a burn ban is not in effect. If you have a device that is legal to use during a Stage 1 burn ban or if this is your only adequate source of heat, you still must burn cleanly and not emit visible smoke. Remember, excessive smoke is illegal at any time, from any device. How do I burn cleanly and not emit visible smoke? Make sure you are using only seasoned, dry firewood or compressed energy logs. Don’t damper down your stove— limiting the air to your fire will cause smoke. Check your chimney periodically. If you see smoke, your fire needs more air.
yep, if all the out of stater's who have moved in around here would leave it would be a much better place
I'd be in trouble over here on the east side of the state. I burn about 1 1/2 to 2 pallets of North Idaho Logs a season. Hardly any trees where I am.
Don't think its a west thing. We have east coast dewsh nozzles filtering in here and foulin up the place. Luckily my road has only seen 3 new residents since 1982. The rest are all old homesteads with ab-original descendants .
they got a stage 1 going in 15 central and eastern Wa counties, however looks like your ok in whittman county http://waburnbans.net/stage-1-burn-ban-called-for-15-counties-in-central-and-eastern-washington/
When even local police have military-grade weapons, if they invite themselves in, there's not gonna be much you can do about it with a deer rifle and an auto-pistol. And the Feds? They have stuff that's 50 years ahead what we know about; They're way past guns. Or, like Whitey said, did I miss your point?
