Have a buddy that wants a bigger saw than his MS170, but he's laid off and been looking around on ebay for a larger saw for cheap. If I had any cheap ones, i've let him borrow of give him one. I cleaned house on a bunch of saws the last couple years. I see some stihl and husky copy's. Do they still make the 365 husky copy? i'd think even if it were junk, I'd probably have enough parts to make it decent for less than half what a decent used one would go for? Or are there any other chinese/japanese knockoffs worth looking at?

One of the guys on CR built up a 372 completely out of Hutzl parts off eBay just to see. Saw ran pretty good but was heavier than the OEM. CR name is Weimiedog, check it out.

Here he is on You Tube. He has a different name there but is Weimiedog on CR . . .

In his videos he mentions the discrepancies of mainly Hutzl parts and in some cases they worked out well from a cost vrs. results point of view for him as a firewood guy.

I've watched all his chainsaw videos in my idle times. Very interesting . . .

he's laid off, he can't afford a 500 dollar saw, so a cheap saw that shares common parts with what I have tons of spares for would be ideal.

I would think a china one would be close to 400 when all said and done

not much. I'd give him a husky 55 if I had one left. That with a 20" would be a huge improvement over what he has. He's been looking at the 100-150 dollar 52-58cc ebay chinese gems, so if a chinese 365 could be had for 200 or so, I'd talk him into it, as I'd have parts to keep him going. he's laid off, family full of kids and sorta hurting. hell, I've been looking for a junk 365/371/372 to redo for him.

This saw new was $600 range. 67cc I took on trade put muffler, new updated side tensioner 670 clutch cover. With 18" was asking $300 but would go $250.

Northern tool has poulan pro 5020s for 199. Plus a $20 off coupon brings it to 179 for a 50cc, 20" saw. That was my first saw, and it ran fine for me. I'd go that route before going for a knock off from eBay

he needs a 60+cc saw and a 22-24" for the wood he's cutting. He's been borrowing mine, and if he wasn't like a brother I wouldn't let anyone borrow a saw. he likes the 365/372 for the large oaks we've been cutting up. a 50cc saw wouldn't do him much good, I only said I'd give him a 55 if I still had one. Just trying to help a brother in need out, without him buying junk.

Kevin, thanks for the offer, I'll see if I can't talk him into it and maybe kick in some cash after I get paid. Ive been broke too, so trying to find him a cheap project saw has been rough.

The Chinese stuff is junk! I'd be looking for a use 357/359 or 365. I just paid $200 for a clean low hr 359 shipped.

Craigslist deals seem to happen up in your area regularly. Seen a 61 in his range not long ago.

not easily available...hence why he's using mine now. he's normally a scrounger, but he has some woods and has three huge oaks that came down in a windstorm, another that was hit by lightning and two 30" cherry's that are rotten at the base that need to come down before then fall.

Does he want to get rid of trade in the 170? I pass on them for $75 local, but to help some one out I could take it in if it runs.
