Well Wildwest, I guess by now you figured out what a smoke dragon is… :whistle::picard:… Some of us, "me" will always stay with the old stoves and thats just because I've had them for my entire life and grown to love, and got them burning "fairly" decent. All the folks are right about the EPA stoves, I'm just not ready to kick out $3000 for a stove, time and labor to replace it. Not when I'm only burning 4 to 5 cord a winter in both stoves.
Besides, there is just something nostalgic about the old Fishers, Bucks, Kodiaks, all nighters, etc… They are just heating monsters!

I'm with ya Dave on the heat output of a Fisher. We had ours crankin at the old farm, most of the winters. It is an amazing stove. I found tho, that I really wanted to see the fires. I actually started looking at possible ways to change the door and add glass. Prolly good I didn't as I don't know how well the glass would take the occasional re-igniting of gases every once in a while. Maybe your pipe deflector idea stops that?

When I think of the cold nights there, I remember how awesome it was to find a chair in the liv rm and warm up fast.

I "very, very" rarely open the doors and put the screen in, Unless it's 90* and I want to vent heat quick or some of my Daughters want an "ambiance" fire, I keep the doors shut. Even burning it slow, the old girl keeps our down stairs a comfortable 80* easy and about 70 upstairs when the baby is off. If I burn Grandma and keep her a constant 400*, My downstairs will be 90* easy. Nobody cold here :p
