Just thought I'd pass this info along to anyone wanting to freeze half to death with the rest of us nuts..
They're holding a charity cut for Scott Kunz north of Augusta on the 6th of December.
He suffered a heart attack and got a couple stints for his trouble, but is still not quite up to the task of firewooding...
Gonna try to split and pile 30 cord in a day. We'll be processing up logs.
There will be a decent sized group of AR,MO,OK, and IA folks making the trip north...
Anyone interested in helping out would be welcome I'm sure...
I can get the address if anyone needs it..

Should be a great time. Scott is a good guy! I hope you guys get all 30 cord C/S/S. Wish I could come. It's only a little over 10 hrs from here. But I am scheduled to work :( Would love to get Friday off, but not likely.

There's a group of us here in the 4 state area that have about 6 of these a year..
This one just happens to be a 10 hr drive as opposed to a 2 hr...
We're usually joined by, or go assist the Iowa clan in their endeavors as time permits.. I.E. (Samtip, homelite410, etc) We have a good time.. And usually get a ton of wood cut/split..

It would be cool to get more firewood hoarders involved in such activities..
Since that's sorta what they do..

    ;)

I would love to see one of these within striking distance for me. Most hoarders live a bit east of your stomping grounds out there Hedge. A charity cut in the Central PA or OH area would prob draw a good crowd of us.

If not for the distance I'd be there, I'd go to one in Central/Western N

I've been trying to get someone in MI to commit to having a big gtg for years...
They just don't gtg like we do here in the south...
We'll use bout anything for an excuse to gtg...

These charity cuts are truly a lot of fun!

You never know what type of saws & equipment will show up.

30 cords in one day is fairly ambitious but we are optimistic. Normally 16-18 cords is what can be expected if using logs, several splitters, & a way to keep the logs & splits moving so the workers can stay busy. So we can use all the help we can get!

Plan to have the log bucking trailer there, there will be a conveyor, loader, several splitters & lots of saws!

Log Bucking Trailer 14 ft long (3).JPG

Log Bucking Trailer 14 ft long (6).JPG
Log Bucking Trailer 14 ft long (8).JPG
    - Tongue is removable & is setting under the end of the trailer out of the way.
    - You can get 3 splitting crews around the side & ends of the trailer.
    - Loader sets the logs on the bucking stand. (Handles logs 14' long & up to 24" diameter. Larger diameter round when they roll down the expanded metal generate too much energy & is not worth taking the chance someone will get hurt.)
    - The cut pieces hit the expanded metal ramp & hopefully roll to the out feed table where the splitters are stationed.
    - You cut in an upright position. 20" bars are a handy length
    - The goal is to not let the wood hit the ground. Greatly limits the bending over to pick wood off the ground.

The bucking stand has been updated since these photos, end fences added & out feed table/shelf enlarged. Updated photos will posted after the Dec 6th charity cut.

If it is at all possible for you to attend, please do, you won't regret it!

As of now, it looks like we'll have 4 big splitters with multi way wedges and 2 supersplits on site, with a couple more standard singles from the locals...
If we can man them, I think 30 cord is doable!!
Gonna take about 15-20 good hands to get it done..

Hedge, I wish I could attend also, gotta work at 11pm and my days of little to no sleep before my shift are about over. I've never been to one of these gtg/charity cut events before. Sounds like a heck of a good time. Good luck in getting the 30 cords, hope to see some good pics.
