Went with a concoction of lemon ginger tea, chili powder, cayenne, honey, cinnamon and apple cider vinegar before bed last night. Woke up feeling rough coughed out some junk and feel a lot better. Still coughing but not as bad

I started using the Ricola herbal several years ago and like them. I use them more for sore throat than coughing because that is what bothers me the most. But when coughing, out comes the Ricola.

As a kid my father would make a concoction of Honey, red onions, lemon juice and cinnamon sticks and let it marinate for months or years and at the first sight of a cough he would chase me around the house with a spoon and make me drink that. I works. I now do the same things with my kids, they hate it just as much as I used to, funny thing is, I now like it and take it religiously. Hopefully they will do the same when they have kids, old customs are important.

Ever detect any alcohol in it after it "marinate"d for years :) a little wild yeast and you'd likely get a mead based drink.

Out of curiosity how did he store it, just in a lidded jar or glass dish with lid? Any water or just lemon juice.

He would store it in a mason jar, he would ad the juice of 2 large lemons, one cup of honey, 3 to 4 chunks of red onion, and one stick of cinnamon. Thats how I do it today. This post reminded me that I was running low and made 2 jars, one for me and one for my pop.

Thanks kat, could I bother you for a better idea of the size of onion chunks? also, store at room temp? How long is it good for? Do you give by the teaspoon or more like a 1/4 cup?

Hoping you are over the hump on this one. We had some adults here getting enterovirus and it took them quite awhile to recover from bronchitis.

No bother at all, this is why this forum is so great. I take a medium size onion, the size of a Washington red apple and cut it in quarts, then cut them into halves. So I end up with about one inch cubes. My old man says that the key is to let it sit in room temperature overnight so that the onions release their magic and the lemon (or lime) juice mixes with the honey and onion flavors. I usually leave it out in room temp then I refrigerate it. From time to time as I'm cooking I shake it the sugars in the honey tend to thicken. It sometimes lasts me months. I also started putting chunks of Aloe lately as aloe is good for a lot of ailments. The allow I put right before I put it in the fridge. Small chunks of aloe leaf.

My snot gobbler (or as jetjr might say "germ factory") has a runny nose and started coughing tonight  She woke up a couple times tonight and said the funniest gibbrish I had to stuffle my laughs (ooops). Imagine a baby improvising a rap song but with the most innocent thoughts and words one could imagine, ADORABLE.

No fever but I did add tea tree oil to one humidifier and eucalyptus to the other humidifier tuneighty .

Too bad she will miss seeing my elderly father tomorrow, but neither him nor his wife can afford to be exposed when my husband goes to meet them. No worries, I send my father pictures :)
