I whacked a deer 6 or 7 years ago. It was dark and by the time I saw the reflection from its eyes it was too late. I hit the brakes, held on and wham. I was fine, the car was bashed up to the tune of about $3500 in damage, but it was driveable. A guy who was following me stopped, asked if I was OK, then asked if he could have the deer if he found it. He never did find it. Called the sheriff, they asked if the car was driveable, which it was, minus a headlight (and after I put the bumper cover in the back seat), gave me a "report number" over the phone and sent me on my way. Guess they were busy that night and only dispatched a sheriff for bad wrecks. I couldn't tell you how many raccoons, possums, skunks, etc that have met their demise under my car over the years. When I was 17, I swerved to miss a small animal and ended up in the ditch. I won't swerve for the small stuff anymore, but will slow down if there isn't anyone on my rear bumper.
Oh dear, sorry to hear. My father has been under the knife 13 times for those. He and his wife have some creative ways of getting him out of the hospital and home sooner than later. I shouldn't even share since its not hosp policy. She brings him his favorite food, and flushes the hosp food he doesnt like. Seems fast food give a bm faster, they require that for his surgeries. He says the mesh these days is much better than years ago. It'll be over soon! Who will stoke your IS?
I hit a deer with a Pontiac G6 7 years ago , did close to 4 grand worth of damage . There were 3 had both lanes covered i missed 2, cliped one.
Just clipped one in the head with my 7.3 about 7 years ago. Unfortunately it spun it back into the bed. I think it was between 12 and 15 hundred in damage. Saw in the paper that a guy hit a black bear a little north of me the other day.
It's kind of instinct sometimes. Once in awhile a squirrel will run out in front of me and I'll swerve just out of instinct from seeing something in my path but halfway into the swirl I say to myself "what are you doing it's just a squirrel?"
Thanks for sharing your story WW. My trip to the OR will be day surgery, so I'll set up the stove before I leave at 8 and I hope to be home by 3 to a toasty warm home.
Thanks very much for your concern. All went well, feeling ok for the time being. Ice packs and pain meds are helping me feel happy for now. 32 deg outside, stove is running and 73 inside, watching Xmas movies on Netflix tonight.
Red tailed hawk musta been tryn to dive for a mouse and didn't see my kenworth sneaking up on the same mouse. Outa the sky and into my grill he went and you woulda thought someone stuck dynamite in a feather pillow...scared the stuffins outa me and I was wide awake then.
Mama just reminded me of when she worked at a exotic hobby farm and a guy came in and did not realize what kinda place it was and his first words were "I'm not drunk and I just hit a kangaroo". She laughed and said they had a wallaby escape a week ago and couldn't find it. He did and she said she never saw an expression of confusion quite like his...said he looked like he hit a sasquatch.
