oh, you wanna make a kitchen table for your girlfriend too? small world! :binoculars: I rout my name and date on the underside so if/when she dumps me, the next guy will choke when he sees it!

I will take a pic when its done.....its just a yellow pine top, I joined it, then used my propane flamethrower to darken the softgrain, sanded it, and used Tung oil finish on that. The base is basically a French turned leg....its a farmer's table kinda thing....my 3rd one actually. Everyone wants one, but I tend to just do them for biggish events, like a new home, etc....the things get expensive in that I don't have a lathe and have to buy the legs ( www.tablelegs.com )....these legs are soft maple, abt $50 each, but they paint up nice......can get a lot of different species, etc, including walnut.

I have one and use it quite a bit. Great for face frames, cabinet carcasses, drawer boxes, etc.

I always use glue. The joints are dang near indestructable when glued and screwed.

Invest in good clamps too...if you don't clamp the joint down securely you'll get mixed results. My work bench is topped with 3/4 ply...i have a 8" overhang on one end that I clamp face frames down too. The right angle clamps are money well spent too.

I only use fine thread screws, which are recommended for for hardwood...but they work plenty good on plywood and softwood too.
