A little milder steel I think. + I think it is just a tad sharper too, than the RS.
May be the same reason,
Sure is fast cutting.

 

I cut this year with the LGX.
20", 3/8 x .050 x 72 DL (72LGX72)
Good success. Very fast cutting.
I noticed I had to sharpen less this year, for the 8 cords cut, I sharpened (filed) 4 times.
More cutter left on the LGX than on the RS with the same amount of wood cut.
Chain seemed to be sharper , sharpen easier & stay sharp longer.
Difference partly was I bucked it in the woods instead of skidding to the trailer & bucking there.
the wood was cleaner. But not that much cleaner & the 1st 2 cord were skidded same as last year.

I have to score the LGX high for my type of cutting.
It out performed the RS cutting birch .

Here the RS is a bit more expensive than the LGX.
For the money, LGX is my choice.

Oregon LPX & Stihl RS3 are the full chisel the safety chains.

Next year , I'd like to try (remember to try) the LPX.
For my type cutting, I'm betting there's not much difference.

I've run the LP for many years. Love it.
Too much emphasis is put on "safety chain" with the LP. It's definitely a good cutting pro level chain.
If I order a dozen or so loops at a time I can get the 72LP shipped in for around $12-$13.

 

I've been using all LGX on my saws lately. I have no complaints. A few passes with file often to keep it nice and sharp and they seem to last a real long time and cut plenty fast for my firewood needs. Cheers!

 

I diddled about with different chains, I have always come back to LGX.

 

I voted LGX as it's the fastest cutting chain for me, after I sharpen it... But LPX is just as good and that extra lil' hump doesn't slow it down.

That said, I use Oregon semi chisel (73DG) 90% of the time in the woods. It just flat out stays sharp at least twice as long as chisel... And after I hit it with a file, it's not noticeably any slower.

21BPX in .325.

 

I use LGX on most everything,except for JGX (full skip) on bars 24" & longer & its 27AX or 68JX exclusively (square/round chisel .404 skip) on the Mac 125C.


2-3 strokes with the 7/32 file every tank of fuel (depending on what I'm cutting,frozen or not etc) keeps the big chips flyin'

 

I have tons of RS and RLK. I won't have to buy chain for years.

I use RS And RLK for dropping a tree and cutting it up. If I skid logs out or if it's a rotten tree, then I use rm. RS is great fast cutting in clean wood but not very efficient at dirty or rotted wood.

I think Stihl chain is great, but it's cost double what I can spin loops of LGX for. So I use a lot of LGX.

LPX is great in .325.

One that hasn't been mentioned is JPX, very smooth for skip chain.

 

Slap a loop of PS3 that looks like this on your favorite lo pro setup and you might change your mind

I have no lo-pro set-ups, but I did just sq file a .325 chain. We'll see...

 

what exactly is the benefit of sq vs round?

 

$12 for a 20" loop of LGX or LPX
That would be hard to pass up.
12 loops would be a 20 year + supply for me.
I don't think I used up 1/2 the chain cutting 8 cords this year.
