I guess I am just darn lucky I have two cords of silver maple left. Unfortunately after that I am just stuck with 10+ cords of 3-5 year old black locust, hickory, and mulberry. It's going to be rough having to burn that junk.
You are probably far enough north that you seen more snow than we did down here? We got just a trace this morn but dammed if that wind wasn't a pizz cutter.
I ran with the pup in 61F and no shirt around 1 pm. Sitting at 40 now, will be in the high 20's by morning. I have some willow and elm that needs to be burnt.
I'm one of those that has mostly oak to burn. I carried in a few extra armloads this week and that's about all I'm doing different. Here in Virginia you hear wintry mix and it seems like the world's going to end. Today was a gorgeous day and being inside until dark was really tough. Hard to believe it'll be below freezing soon.
That's the spirit brother, I said that a couple days ago and Rotti thought I was in the egg nog a little early....LOL
Well, sittin at 34 deg here. Down from 54 this AM. Got a load of pine in the furnace. Plow's on the truck, parking lot cleaned up, hoses stowed etc. Got at least 4 plow trucks to fix/prep tomorrow for the commercial guys so I'll be very busy, got 34 hrs in in two days gettin these last minute yahoos ready for snow. Supposed to start getting lake effect tomorrow through Friday. Winter is coming fast, but I guess I'm ready. 20 cord of good wood & 3 or 4 of silver maple & pine. 77 deg in this joint, way too warm, but mama's happy, so I'll just sleep with the window open. A C
Hey amateur cutter . Good to see you around. I haven't seen much posting from you lately. Been busy eh? Good to see you are all prepared for winter. Typical for the Firewood Hoarders Club crew.
Superior Wi 18" snow, from the reports, Milwaukee little in the air nothing on ground temp now about 21F. yesterday evening I was soaking wet from sweat stacking some Honey locust and cleaning up a huge pile of noodles that rain had soaked. If that pile would freeze down would be no moving it until next May. Most everything else is set although got some wind damage that will have to addressed this weekend if possible. 2.5 cords of css Elm on drive still needs to be moved Cold is a bit early this year as compared to recent years past but not really unexpected
Wildwest, I agree. Out there it is downright terrible. Here, the cloudy weather is keeping our temperatures up and will continue by the looks of it. Fortunately the snow stayed north of us. We may get some this weekend but not like they did up north. It was 28 when I got up. It is windy and 35 forecast and that will be the high for the next week. Tis okay, we have plenty of wood.
I still have over 1/2 a cord of red maple so I'm just going to keep rolling with that. By the time its done the weather should pair well with my sugar & Norway maple, and oak (white, pin, red)!
What do you figger on the windchill? Bet those improvements you talked about a few months ago (tightening windows/doors insulation) have helped. Hope your 2 stoves can drive ya right out with heat.
Teens for lows here this week. Lowest temps so far this fall. New deal for me was having to winterize my RV I bought this summer. Problem is, I go all winter so I am afraid I will get a little tired of winterizing every time I come home.
Stinny can you read minds? I just turned the pellet stove down! The remodel has improved the heat retention by 1000% Almost ashamed to say I was considering opening a door, it was 82* in my main room
Good news is... at minus 4 degrees, with wind... prolly only takes less than a nano second to cool the place down when a door opens up... Great to hear that keeping it at any warm temp you want in nasty cold weather... is a piece of cake this time around. Gotta give you a lot of comfort knowing that...

I feel for you. I got a bunch of tree limbs from Craigslist I'll trade you for those 10 cords. Guy said it's been down for years and no one will come get it. It's got to be primo stuff.
We hit a high of 29°F today. For me, Without kids at home any more to play in the snow with, I'd just as soon it would wait until close to Christmas before I see it.
