Choices? I have a 500 sq. ft. loft above the garage that would benefit from a thermostatically controlled quality product. Would like to keep temps down in the 50's and crank it up when used. Thanks

There are several mini stoves. Ones even named mini Made by Enviro. ;)

Enviro Empress, Mini and St Croix Hastings are about the smallest I've seen.

These start at around 800 SQFT. Eco Choice PS35 (basically is a Quad inside). Travis Industries has the AGP(all grade pellet) in two models Lopi AGP and the Avalon AGP. Avalon also has the Newport.

A Harman PB105 with a fuel restrictor on it?

Just about any stove that can be operated in on/off mode under a t-stat.

I vote mini, or Quad Santa Fe but all stoves mentioned are good ones.

The mini has trouble burning on heat level one but the quad works great on low!

Any stove with on/off capabilities. The St Croix Element is a pretty nice small stove.

If you like the modern look. Enviro has the new P3.

Quad has the little Castile along with the Santa Fe. Both 700 SQFT and 34,500 BTU's. Thelin Little Gnome, And the Drolet Eco 35 is yet another. But like IHP said any stove with on/off will do, I'd try to stay under 40 to 45K BTU's unless the place is extremely drafty!! 35K is about the smallest you'll see and should be plenty.

Keep us posted and if you have any questions feel free. We love chatting stoves!! ;)

I'd be careful with Thelin, afaik they are going out of business and only producing parts for another year or so. This was shown to me in a letter sent to the dealer I work for, although that was a while ago and maybe things have changed.

ugh...hate hearing stuff like this...not only for the folks who worked there and now will be out of work, but for the thousands of units out there that will eventually fall into disrepair without parts to replace them.....

Thelin announced quite some time ago they were shutting down the pellet stove division(probably already is) but promised to supply parts for some time.Personally I think it would be better, because if they stopped supplying the motors the aftermarket/makers of the motors could sell them, would cost about 1/3 what thelin charges.

There was a big writeup somewhere(other forum maybe),and I do not remember the closedown date, but seem to remember end of this year.If I find will post. They(the corp) makes much more money off their other products.I would love a small one,but would convert to 120,2 simple timers like old whits, and would have a dependable unit.Went and looked at 2 used ones out here, but way overpriced.

If they really are discontinuing production of the pellet line, that's too bad. I love the look of the Gnome & Parlour stoves. Was thinking about getting one next year if the propane heating in the new house doesn't work out well. Having the 12v back-up power would work out well for me, as I really not sure about installing a generator here ($$$$).

I haven't heard anything new on this in quite some time so things may have changed, hard to say. I know we sold and ordered one about 2 months ago but it was a direct vent. I didn't know it was only the pellet line.

Speaking of which, I think I may have scored a free gnome pellet stove from a customer we sold a Quad to :dancer:

I'll just stock up on a few wear items and should be good to go. It was running full blast and worked well when I was measuring for the install so I don't see it needing anything any time soon :D

I always thought the Gnome were neat looking. But my heat load was too large to ever get serious. A co worker had one and besides the igniter the only major replacement was the DC auger motor.

I forget what all they make other than heating items(they make the pellet stoves in gas versions),but they make metal products for either the aerospace industry or airline industry.
