I'll be making the run up top to bring this down (pic 7423) so I can fill this stack of wood I started today, pic 8170. After I get that down & stacked it's the wood in pic 8155.
Looks like a lot of work to do All that will fill that stack up really good You have any idea how much would you have stacked up now? 50+ cords ?
I'm not sure how much we have stacked, but I'll say by the time I get done about 20 cord. I helped out a neighbor who never ordered his wood, this is the second time in fours years, the good thing is it gave me room for stacking the newer wood. Next year will be a good year for cutting with all the new wood mother nature put down, just have to find more room for it.
It use to be worse, I still have a pile of beech I'll get tomorrow. It also gives me a good reason to head back in the woods. I did just forget that we have three or four piles of pine & hemlock that need to come out before the white stuff hits. In about 1.5 weeks we'll have burned 1.8 cord of shoulder season wood so far this year, so that will give me room to start stacking by next weekend. I stack three deep so the middle & the front will be open, the back rack is still full.
They keep the grass or anything from growing, they also hold the moisture but so far we never had a problem with our firewood. We decided that since it rained hard last night we would head to Malone NY for some shopping and a breakfast buffet, both went real well. Once we got on the other side of Parishville NY, a chit load of farm land with lots of wood stacks, it made me wonder if any of them were on here or in a tree stand!
I think they said P.M. rain for tomorrow. I'll hit the trail up top tomorrow for 2 or 3 loads, it looks like our weather will stay nice for another week except for one night this week will drop to 15-16. We're still burning the pine, hemlock and bigtooth aspen. How's the weather your way?
It's snowing at the moment, we should wake up to some white stuff on the ground unless it turns to rain.
We had snow friday night at the cabin, then rain all day until mid afternoon. Back home, windy and cold. Sleet tuesday, no snowstorm later in the week, oh well.
If the weather holds for another month or so it will allow me to cut more wood that is down, looking at the long range weather report we won't have much snow.
Nice looking pile of splits. I hear you on needing the weather to hold........ I have so much wood to get to that there is no way I could get it all in even the the next two weekends.
almost 2 cords of wood I a week and a half?...explains why you have so much wood..or am I reading this wrong?
Since we started burning, not in 1.5 weeks, I should have explained it better. Some of the pine had seen it's best day but we still burned it, another thing is we heat from the basement so you'll use more wood.
We had a dusting of snow during the night, I started off splitting the rest of the rounds I found under the cherry splits (pic 8166 is what was left, pic 8173 is after I was done, I started hauling the maple down from up top, pic 8174,75 & 76, all the wood is stacked with a one ore two more loads left from up top. I still have a the wood in pic 8158 left to stack.
