Timing should be right and that new cold front rolling in. Should be exciting times to be in the woods.

Out west we have Mule deer. I watched this fellow for a while calling his females and running off the young bucks for a while.

    Wild

They have become a little too accustomed to people though.
The bears are getting to be the same way. Too many people think they are cute and want to feed them. Then when something bad happens it is the animals fault.

I've heard from a few different people that Mule deer aren't nearly as "bright" or skittish as whitetail.

They are very curious so what causes the white tails to split the mule deer wait a second to see what is going on.

Rut is just starting to pick up here. I saw a lot of fresh scrapes just getting established.

I didn't archery hunt this year, but everyone I talked to said it was the worst year they can remember for seeing deer. We have blue tongue disease spreading...and last year's super harsh winter seems to have taken the population down a notch.

Hoping for the best this weekend. Gonna be cold with the air pressure bottoming out Saturday AM. I'm hoping they won't be laying down all day.

Lukem, I think this front flipped the switch on here in central indiana. We had 4 deer vs Car collisions on 465 just today before 7 am all around the city. I'm looking forward to Saturday.

I'm shooting the first 2 does that walk in front of me because I will have to come back Saturday evening to drive the salt truck :(

I went as far as buying a pair of mittens that flip open to expose the trigger finger since it's so itchy :)

I can kill 2 per day and no more than 5-10 bucks per county/yr. Coastal plain use to and may still have no limit in certain counties and hunts with gun aug 15- jan 1 !!

Holy crap!o_O In Maine it's one antlered deer/yr unless your lucky enough to win an any deer permit in a lottery, and even with that it's only 1 deer/yr. Hell, with bag limits like that you don't need to buy meat unless you want a little variety.
