The little Dolmar 3410 I bought off of Carbine at the GTG last month is a decent little saw.....I've been climbing with it alot lately, as both my 019T and 020T need some work......I've impressed with that little ripper! Not to mention I modified one of my Stihl 16" bars for it so I don't need a bunch of different chains.

But my 015T's, as antiquated as they may be, are still my faves. They have lots of power, but NO BRAKES!

That's what they make lanyards and safety devices for... It's quite the rush. You also need to learn knots... Something ,many don't have the patience and brain space to learn

I've learned a few because my son is a Scout, but I will leave climbing to the Pro's ;) Scotty Overkill can shimmy a tree pretty good  If I need something done, I will call on him and cwn877 to come and hang for the day. We just had a GTG at my place on Oct 4th. I wish you would have known about it. Good times.. :dex:

When it comes to climbing I cheat and use my bucket truck:D. As far as top handles go my pap only has one arm and that's all he runs he fell in love with the echos and has dropped trees that should've been done with my 288. He even ran one over with the tractor and its still going. Good power, reliable and dependable.

Your pap is quite a guy, Chris. I enjoy every minute out there on your farm when he's around.......I'm amazed and impressed with how well he does with one arm.....

Even though some my say it is unsafe . We used to race top handle saws at GTG's. Called it bumblebee class. Rules 40cc under and must be a top handle saw.
Had a rear handle saw class too for 40cc under.

Man if they would have only had stihl PS or even the PS3 chain back then. We all just ran modified semi chisel chain then. Now we could run square 3/8LP. :D

This 200 of mine won one year in 2 cuts 8x8. Over woods ported saws even. This 200 just ran gooooooood. Sold it to a tree climber in UP and he said it ate his other 2 200's. o_O

Just ran 540 today. Not impressed. Heavier then the 338 and 540 had techlite bar. Not near the power in the cut of my well broken in 200. Also felt heavy in the rear 1 handing with 16" techlite. No where near the balance of the 338 IMO and not as balanced as the 200 was. All JMO

Wish I would have kept 1 of the 338's before selling them both.

Glad I bought the used echo now for my uses.

I'm not the only one not impressed, top notch tree guy wasnt impressed either. He owns his own tree company and builds racesaws.

    Lets just bump this up

This is where the OP insulted a lot of homeowners that have plenty of experience with chainsaws.

Most of it has been deleted because the new member cried to the mods

No, the original poster didn't cry to the mods. I asked for it to be deleted because people couldn't read and thought I said something I didn't and it became a pizzing match about racing saws on the ground. Go back and read the original post, word for word.

In the very first post I asked for it to be a civil discussion on climbing saws. "For actually climbing Not on the ground BS" were my exact words. go back and read the original post, word for word.

Running a saw in a tree is nothing like running a saw on the ground. I did not insult anyone. I stated "homeowners have no business one handing saws." I didn't saw homeowners couldn't use top handles. Anyone that has work tree service or had any kind of formal training knows the consequences of the work. I said osha states at no time should a person use one had to run a saw. I also stated that being in a tree and making a cut, it was the nature of the work to have to help a spar or tree section, over with one hand, even though osha says no no.

I didn't say that homeowners shouldn't use one handed saws like a lot of people thought i said. go back and read what I said. I said homeowners should not be one handing saws. Those are two totally different things. Guido even quoted me (whats left of what I said).

Top handle saws are dangerous. the leverage point where you are holding it makes it very susceptible to kickback. I never once said homeowners shouldn't use a top handle saw. The question/point of the thread was a review or issues with the T540 as there wasn't much feedback on them here. Everyone "heard" about them, but no real experience with them aand everyone that responded chimed in on whatever saw they ran and some people raced them. again, from the get go, the conversation was supposed to be a legit tree climbing saw review/questions/concerns of the T540xp.

My 540 is running great after 12 tanks thru it. It came alive even stronger than it was. Out of the box had a ton more grunt than my old 200T. I love it. No regrets picking it up. It is a tad heavier overall than the old 338 series, but the extra power and balance make up for it. my balances great with a 14" bar. I don't see the need for a 16" on it. It might be a little front heavy if it came with a 16". I no longer have to lug a 50cc saw up a tree as this one has the grunt to pull the bar length buried in hardwoods. Its cut maple, ash, pin oak, walnut, and red oak as of now.

I have no less than 2top handles. I think the count is 3??

I use one all the time when I go to the farm. Its compact and its a 40cc stihl so I can buck small wood if needed but mostly use it to cut field edges and branches and roads out.

And yes I one hand it. Try not to but so m eyes you do for reasons.

I sometimes am holding a tree or branch with my other hand. Rarely am I ever behind the saw. If it were to kick back it would rip out of my hand and land beside me.
