Let me start out first by saying that, as most of you already know, we've got a great thing going here.....not just for woodburners, but for chainsaws and cooking over fire and ALL kinds of stuff. ...

That being said, from DAY 1 it was our goal to have a low key, low friction environment where politics and animosity would be kept OUT of the forums......and its been pretty good, until recently....

A couple of threads have gotten out of hand, seems a dogfight ensues over stupid crap at the drop of a hat. And now some longtime members (whom I value more than I can say) are becoming upset with it and rightfully so......I'm not going to mention a single name, you know who you are and you know what I'm talking about. So here's the deal....

    - this isn't a place to dogfight. Lots of other places on the net to do that. If that's what you are about, save it for somewhere else.

    - there are people whose families (yes, wives and kids and even GRANDKIDS) read along with them here. Keep this in mind when you post a rant or a picture of something offensive. We don't want that stuff here AT ALL......no exceptions!

    - if you and another member have a problem with each other, don't vent on the boards......if you can't work it out via a PM or something, there is an IGNORE feature. Use it....it works.....

    - lastly, I value each and every one of you guys/gals.......all of you have contributed to make this site the best firewood place on the Internet. But I need you all to help me keep it clean, classy, friendly and helpful to others.....

Appreciate the post Pallet Pete. I'm out of the loop on the situation you are talking about and really don't care to know. But what you said is what needs to happen here. And to quickly share something, I was drawn away from another popular wood forum with things along these lines happening and "the good ole boys" club (mods) handled things the wrong way, so here I am.

At a quick glance, when reading the posts, I get you and Scotty confused for some reason.

Well said Scotty I was reading one yesterday and thought about telling the guys involved to stop with the nonsense and grow up not to mention they were way off topic too. Then I realized it wasn't my place to do that. I'm with the rest of us original members in seeing the mood change and glad you stepped in this place is laid back and full of good and knowledgeable people and I'm proud of that.

Just temporary ban the offenders. They will get the message even if they think they are not the ones doing it.

I have seen a few posts from mods that were out of line. Thats the problem with a select few with power. They can say what they want in public then delete it as well as yours when they want. The rest of us have to report it and wait. Or have what we post in response sniped quickly.

I agree it needs to stay a friendly site.

Sorry that happens to you Clem. I know I like busting your chops-- kind of a brotherly love there though, I don't delete it afterward.

Wasnt talking about you Griz. Never a problem with anything you have said.

Poking fun is one thing I do it and expect it back. Just certain things have been said that dont sit right.

Or posts have gotten derailed and totally edited, in many cases did not warent editing.

Griz you asking g me what kind of tires would be on a truck I would buy is funny and a classic internet type derail. If I was a modd would I edit that out...no. some posts I have read have things like that deleted...for not much reason I have seen.

Love this place and all you guys I promise. But I think post deletion should be used very sparingly. But again thats my viewpoint and I am not a modd nor have any skin in the game here.

We all have our moments or take things out of context. Some good ribbing and off color humour is fine and makes this a good place just keep it family friendly I mean who hasn't offered to get dex a step stool or asked swags if his beautiful wife lost a bet? If you don't like what someone said pm them and talk it out if that doesn't work ignore them. I'm pretty sure all the mods and Scotty would have no problem working things out if something they said upset somebody we are all human. One of the best things here are the lack of rules and the self restraint of the members to keep it that way.

Our PM boxes are always open. And we ALL spend a LOT of time here. Both "on the clock" and not. If anybody really has a problem with the moderation here, we want to hear about it. But please, understand that if you had a post edited, deleted, moved, etc. and didn't get a PM about it, or a formal warning, then rest assured it wasn't a big deal, don't take it personally, and yes, you are still on the "nice" list.

I agree with Bluelou this is actually the only forum i'm on. I think i know the other one most speak of and was not nearly as impressed with it as i am this site. Everyone does a good job policing themselves for the most part. I miss a lot of threads so i know i miss a lot of the stuff being talked about. I've been known to jack a thread or two and ty to keep things pretty light hearted. I also have big shoulders (not really i'm a wee little fellar) and would hope if i offend or just make someone mad they would pm me so it could be worked out.

I read posts on chainsaws when I needed help on AS. That was about 8 years or so of lurking before I joined. Reason , all the BS saying you have to muffler modd, port it or your saw sucks cause its not a pro saw.

We get some of that here but most of it is jokeing. I like that and this is a good place for telling a guy a farm boss 290 is still a good firewood saw that will hold its value.

And unlike another wood burning forum, those here dont tell you everything you do will burn your house down.

Guys believe me when I say I love all of you, and we all have a passion for the same things. Those of you who've met me in person know I'm about as down to earth and honest as a person can be, I'd give the shirt off my back to any one of you if you needed it. My original post wasn't aimed at scolding anyone, it's just a blanket "refresher" to remind everyone that we're a family, and a damm good one at that.

Remember fellas, opinions are like azzholes......everyone has one. If you feel the need to pound your drum, do it elsewhere. If you can talk things out in a civil and respectful manner without harshness or ignorance towards another person, have at it. We gotta keep this place the way it was intended from the start.
