Had some pretty nice firewood'n weather this weekend. Made some decent progress on the holzhausen. I'm about halfway done with the bottom part: about 1.3 in, out of 2.5 cords total. Was still looking a bit short on the amount of locust I wanted to fill the bottom, so I went in for some more. This one was in 3 pieces - broken off high stump, a piece on the ground, and the rest precariously suspended in a tree. This part is hanging up in the larger looking locust in the background. There is a little birch tree in the in the foreground, and it's just barely suspended there by a little 1" branch. Only a few feet from the ground at this end though. I haven't dealt with this yet, but it shouldn't be too hard to get down - easy enough to get a rope on it! The stump had a back lean to it from where I wanted to put it. Got a rope up top, wedged it a bit, then had to pull it the rest of the way over. There's still a bit more of the tops to go back for, plus the hanging piece, should be another 1/2 load at least. I split up all the large rounds as I unloaded em, and sawed up everything that I left in larger pieces. Stay tuned for pics of the HH construction!
I can get a healthy NY face cord of splits on the trailer. That's basically how I've been measuring the progress. Split, sort/load, and park it by the stack. I reserved some of the straightest branches to use as cross ties. Set 3 of those set in so far. And they blend right into the stack! Starting to look like something now!
Great job on the trees in the woods Shawn. I'm particularly interested in how your HH turns out. Looks like your off to a great start so far. I saw on the last layer in pictures you have a few Dead men added in for outer wall support. Looking good!
From the pics , the trees look really gnarly On the ground & the all CSS's they look like awesome firewood ! You moved a few tons of wood & a few million BTUs . Great job!
It looks cooler.. Some have claimed it can dry the wood faster, because it gets good airflow no matter what the wind direction is. Some have claimed to have disproven this claim. But I don't need it to. This stuff is 3 years out. I'm just hoping to please the wood gods and impress my neighbors..
Please ignore all the leaves in the yard... That's what I've been doing! I was saving up to buy a leaf blower, but then CAD kicked in... Buying Dex's Husqy 385XP instead!
