You guys will get a kick out of this. Had a friend who knows I'm into saws ask if I'd look at a friend of his saw. Said it didn't have any power and the chain is sharp. I figured the rakers were out of whack so I told him to bring it by and I'd have a look see.

Once I saw it, it didn't take long to figure this one out After a new bar, chain and sprocket he was amazed how well it cut.

When the chain sinks into the bar this deep, it might be time to replace. Wear was about 1/3 up the rivets on the chain as it had sunk in so much. At least he wasn't using change oil from a car for lube. Put a lot of extra wear on that saw for no reason. I did check the oiler and was working fine but he said the bar was getting hot. Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. What does it take for people to put 2 and 2 together?

Probably hasn't had any lube on that sprocket bearing in some time too!

You can preach maintenance all you want, most people just don't get it.for the last twenty years i have fixed so much of my familys outdoor power equipment that it's beyond belief.finley told them to fix there own crap. The guy at the local repair shop loves me for it. O and the family members bitch about the bill, but you still can't tell them nothing.

I did feel sorry for it. I guess I need to start agreeing with people that it is junk and I'll just take it off their hands. Dang Conscience!

    Good catch & repair

I didn't know about the drive sprocket with my first saw.
I ran it until the sprocket looked just like that one.
New bar & sprocket (Changed to the rim type), & a learning experience,
Husqy 61 lasted 30 years (still runs, good back up saw)

We all experience learning & teaching moments, use them both well :)

Not pertaining to saws, but was getting my tires changed to the ATs and the mechanic told me about a woman who brought her car in complaining about some noises.
He checked the oil and there wasn't a drop on the stick.
He did a "change" with new filter and warned her it might not last.
He asked when she'd last had the oil changed and her reply was "oh, the last one was just before my husband died".
That was over 5 years prior.
She called again a couple days later to say the car wouldn't run and there was oil everywhere (yeah, you guessed right). Had it towed to his shop and there was a nice big hole in the block where a rod had punched through.
Maybe she just wanted a new car.

I was at the Ford dealer one day years ago and there was a brand new F450 with the cab off....heads off. I asked the guy if they had another sick leaker. Nope. Owner put 30k on it and didn't change the oil.

    Holy wah.

At what pint should one replace a spur clutch? I have always had rim sprockets until I got this husky 455. I want to run the spur clutch until it is used up then switch to a rim sprocket clutch. Just starting to get marks in the spurs.

Where I'm from there's guys that'd take that sprocket, build weld back up in those worn out teeth and file them back down to reuse it.....no lie...

Probably got more $ in welding rod "fixing" it than same or more $ just buying a new one!!!

The problem with Spurs is that tou have to replace the whole drum at $20-$30 a pop. Rim drives are dirt cheap at $5-$10.

Reminds me of a pic I saw online once of a lady that brought her car in for brakes, and the rotor was worn clean through all the way down to the fins :hair:
