    Pretty fancy.
    Don't ski much anymore.
Mostly used them for trapping several years ago, pulled a sled.

    Yea
    Heat the whole house.
    Have a smart thermostat,
Have it set for every 30 minutes to run the fan & move the air around.
Sometimes use a fan at the top of the basement steps, during real cold spells.

Dave, had you considered a plot of whatever they like outside the garden as a sacrificial thing?
Maybe that would just make 'em want more.

ugh.. We have woodchucks that think the tomatoes are for them. I don't mind doing battle with the wildlife, but I had a lady "equestrian" who lived near me who couldn't keep her horses corralled and they somehow would pick the middle of my garden to trample through. One day after multiple incidents one of the horses almost trampled our 4 year old and my wife in our yard. I had a few words to say to her about that.

Not fun, as nice as it might be to appreciate their natural beauty.

Dave, how do you keep the dirt from killing your chain? I towed a bunch of ash and oak out of a lot once and ended up bringing a power washer and tubs of water to get the bark cleaned out.

Birch is a smooth barked tree.
I don't get much in the bark , but the 17" saw marks
I make , sometimes get filled with junk from the trail, I clean them
Out before cutting. I learned to hook
the chain so to marks are up while skidding, they stay cleaner.

I have to look close at the big heavy logs, they are so heavy small gravel can
inbed in the bark, if where I cut, chain is toast in milli-seconds. Lesson
    Learned the hard way.

Dennis had a tip for cutting dirty wood, clean with a
    wire brush where you'll cut.

    Added 2 steps
    Now 16 times
Actually now I don't skid to the truck , but to staging area,
    Where I buck & load in the atv trailer ( + 1 )
    DSCF3856.JPG
then off load the atv trailer to the big trailer ( + 1 )
    DSCF3885.JPG
    Gained of 2 more steps.
Chain stays sharp 5 times better cutting in the woods than cutting dirty wood on the gravel road :)
Wood is cleaner , a trailer full is easier to pull & hauls more than I can skid. :)
    Win / win IMO

Sometimes dropping steps makes for a less than ideal outcome.

What surprised me was how long the chain stayed sharp,
Started with a new Oregon 72LPX, sharpened 4 time for 8 cord.
At that rate of use, I have enough chains to last for several years :)
