Went up on the roof, pulled the cap.
Slipped while holding the cap, then I notice all the frost on the roof. o_O
    What was I thinking ? That's the problem, I wasn't thinking ! Dumb-A$$ !!

Inched my way down on my butt , carefully got on the ladder,

Will wait for the sun to hit the roof, hopefully melt off the frost.

Scary moment adrenaline rush for sure. Whew !
Better to be Lucky than good :)

I did get the cap cleaned & ready to go back on.
I did take some pic though.

Ya Dave. Living where you live, it should become second nature to you about the frost. But then, many times in the fall or early winter we get a bit rusty. lol

Frost free roof (South side anyway) :)
    Didn't take long
Wasn't worth the effort but was worth "peace of mind"

    But:
Was having draft problems last night on the re-load.
Had them a few days ago too.
( so clean the stove, clean the combustor & the pipe were on the list)
I did find a problem last night, but didn't know it at the time. I went out & pulled the clean out plug to look up the chimney.
After finding bird bones in the top of the stove bypass chamber, I figured maybe more stuff in the chimney.
The clean out plug was loose & not seated in square. Chimney looked fine for what I could see.

Seems I was getting air around the plug cooling the exhaust gasses & reducing draft.
Might be why my cat was so plugged, was caused by a poor draft.
Big noticeable difference in the draft when I went down to adjust the stove for the night.
Fire was brighter, horizontal pipe thru the wall got warm.

Didn't put it all together until this morning. Stove was running great. Burned down the load normal,
    outside pipe was warmer.

Had to be me, when I started a fire on a cold day I pulled the plug,
lit some newspaper , stuffed it in to get the draft going.
Didn't seat the plug good enough.
    Seated good now !
Stove working like normal, probably don't need a new combustor, but have a spare
to swap out & clean annually won't be bad.

Will put that in memory (I hope)

I kinda thought that rain gutters wouldn't work well in AK. They would get ripped off or something. The skiing areas here never have gutters.

I did my sister's for her last Sunday.
About Twice as much in the bucket.
Her 8" ID chimney is five of those rods top to bottom.

The 6 foot long single wall horizontal from the stove to the chimney had about 1/3 of a bucket. :bug:

Removed a Scandia 315 that needed new seals all around and put in a home made large Tempwood the day before.

Hoping she burns less of my wood. :hair:

House not in a heavy snow area. Been working good for years.
A metal roof, where the snow slides, they may get ripped off. ? ?

    Yea
One of those things that works on you until you figure it out.
Tonight's reload went smooth , like normal.
CAT glowing well, up to temp like it's supposed to .
    All seems normal.

    Good to go now,
    Top to bottom cleaning done.
    Got dry wood.

I thought you have a setup that you can clean it from the ground?

I clean mine from in the house, can't even get to the top from the roof without putting a ladder against the pipe (about 8ft tall)

Frost on a roof is what broke my back several years ago. Fell about 10ft.

Glad you figured everything out... :) If that cat isn't burning correctly you sure know something is amiss.

I have almost the identical temperature and humidity thingy. Unfortunately our humidity is much higher than yours though...

    Good burn last night,
Going on 15 hour burn now, no smoke odor, good cat temp, good heat output,
stove pipe & chimney pipe are warm.
    I think I can relax &
I'll file to memory , "seat the clean-out plug properly" !!
