Discovered an engorged tick 1.5 weeks ago, back of my left knee. It had been there a while, 2-3 days. I hadn't even been near the woods. We do have a buncha chipmunks and, of course, Giz runnin around the edge of the woods. A rash has now been developing to around 3" dia. Anywho... ... went off to the doc. Juz got back. Heading for the pharm for antibiotics in a bit. I guess they just hit it with Anti Bs early and it usually does the trick. Gawd dammmmmm ticks...
I can't stand em. I bought some of the permethrin stuff, if that's the right name. It's time to treat some work clothes again. Hope to do some cutting this weekend maybe. Stay healthy my friend.
I have not seen a tick lately. I need to treat some more clothes though. The last couple times I was cutting I did not have treated clothes on. Some say if you spray a good strong bug spray all over your pants and boots you will be in good shape when it comes to ticks. I've not seen a tick on me when I have that Per. stuff on me. However, I really try to stay out of the tall grass areas until we have had some real good frost and it stays cold. When I find them on me it is usually after I've been walking through an area with tall grass/weeds. I am going to try to get into the woods and bring a lot of 6-7' logs out with the tractor early this winter. Save me from moving too much by hand. And get the wood out before snow gets deep. I'm waiting for my quick attach conversion plate to be fitted for my loader so I can use my forks again. Hope I can avoid those little bastages they call ticks.
Probably giz when she rubbed up against your leg. I'm glad that the tick problem is really low-keyed in this area. For now anyway.
Too many stories here and elsewhere... the resulting rashes can all look so different. I'd be a little less surprised if I'd been in the woods for any length of time. I know the SOBs can be anywhere here so... oh well. Doc says the CDC recommends just what she's doin'... what could possibly go wrong...
Wow Stinny, that just plain sucks. I didn't like your post, because I hate those bastages. I've been out in the woods quite a bit in the last couple months and haven't had a problem. I hope the Meds help.
I was hopin it was a wood tick when we pulled it off. When this dam rash started up though, it wasn't at all like the wood tick "marks" I had after finding them on a cabin trip in 2012. They left practically nuthin. Guess the docs don't wait to do tests first now, they just get Anti Bs going.
Stinnster, you definitely know it was not a deer tick? And how did the doc remove it? Hope you feel better (mentally)
We removed it a week and a half ago. The rash is what got me heading to the doc's. The 2 other ticks that got on me a few years ago, wood ticks, got engorged but no red rash. So... 2 pills/day for 10 days. Fingers crossed.
I went for a walk in the woods late Saturday. No spray because ... it was cold. Found one on my inside thigh up high Monday morning. Took a good look at what had irritated me all night. It hadn't found any blood yet though. It was crawling around inside a tiny jelly jar Monday but today isn't moving.
Yer not alone Stinny. I was away at that huge white oak job when my daughter called me on my cell in a frantic mess....she said you need to come home right now dad, mom has a tick in her back!! She doesn't go in the woods at all...... It had been in her back for around a day, got it out without braking it and she didn't get a rash. I hate them damm things!
Found a tick on me in the one area you really don't want one a few weeks back. That'll freak you out EDIT: Come to think of it, it might've been a chigger. In any case, I'm not a fan of any of those little pests calling me home
It's nuts how ticks can get dug in and you can't even feel em. Not like any other bug. One of the wood ticks hadn't latched on yet when I was in the shower. Down below my knee. I watched him walk along and I couldn't believe there was no sensation of him there... at all. We have no see-ums/minges, whatever you want to call em. They're smaller than a speck of pepper. Can feel them instantly. A tick 10 times bigger... can't. I know a tick is flatter than paint before they get engorged. And tough. Much harder to kill em than any other bug. Glad you got your honey's tick off her back early.
Last time I saw a cousin of mine, who lives in a rural area in Maine... said he'd been out in the woods this last spring and found almost 20 of them on him when he got back... He said, more than a few ended up in his crotch area. Just... damm. I told him about Sawyer's permethrin, after I learned about it from Scotty here.
