Makin Uglies !!

Made some pretty good ones yesterday

 

Ugly for sure. What species is that?

 

When that red paint comes off on the wood, you know you're making uglies!

 

Knotty pieces of ash , the rest of it splits real nice

 

Looks like you were haing a little "fun", HDR.
I've got a bunch of white pine that looks a lot like that.
Most are too big to fit in the stove, so they'll end up in the pit.

I have some like the 3rd pic, but not quite as ugly as pic 1 & 2 .
No stacking uglies for you .

Where do they end up ?

 

Some go in the wood crates some go in the pit

 

I might finish up splitting today,
then have to find a place to stack the uglies.
Will be mostly fire pit wood, & sometimes Spring & Summer stove fires for the
cool rainy spells to take the chill off.

Like the idea of a crate, I need to work on that.

No worries about it getting air circulation with the shapes.
Probably 40 cubic feet of wood in 128 cubic ft of stacked cord of uglies

 

Most people call me ugly,so I always have a soft spot for them.

 

That 2nd pic looks like your splitting a pineapple out of the middle!!

 

I've been into some "notty pieces of ash". Looks like you could have ended up a lot worse than that!!

 

When I was a young whipper snapper... along with a headache, I'm pretty sure I woke up once next to a notty piece of ash...

 

When I was in college and saw a nice piece of ash I would always say "i'd split that like a log".

 

I usually save the ugly ones for the pit.

Looks like you use tannerite to split your wood. BOOM!
