I have an old drinking buddy that works at the Benjamin Moore mixing factory nearby. He hooked me up with two 5gal buckets tinted for the exterior of my house @$110/ea (and I paid his tab that night) - the best exterior acrylic stuff they sell, it went on pre-primed hardiboard lap siding with a Titan sprayer I bought. $750 total and had the house painted in ~5hrs....took me 1.5days to mask everything off though. Now I just need to paint the trim(4yrs later)
hmmm, my countertops are being delivered from Menards next week. I could ask them to add paint to the delivery ($189 for trucking). He wont be able to go there to see the swatches in person, and the internet is iffy on true colors... Then again maybe they could match the color he picked tonight. Even if its different, that particular wall he is painting tonight is isolated, so a different shade on the other walls would be fine. Off to google grand distinction, thank you
I just painted the entire house (exterior) and the valspar reserve is what I decided on. I am happy with the quality, and it was in the $ 50/gal range.
The grand distinction cermic flat has a sheen that is very close to the eggshell and satin is a higher sheen.Also try to remember even being the same color because of the natural light shining through (shading) it can look different on other walls.If not sure and have time paint a small piece of drywall let it dry then you can put it in different areas to see how it looks has help me out in the past with customers.I was a painting/drywall contractor until I moved to the forest and traded my brush for a chainsaw.
How much of a hurry are you in? The Sherwin Williams around here has sales on paint all the time. Usually somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-30 percent off.
Good Advice, I am an excellent bargain hunter and used similar promotions a few years back in Colorado. But, Sigh, I need back in the house asap so we will likely buy before the next sale. I did however pull a $10 off $50 coupon from SW internet site. Not sure how but husband said clerk was able to use it twice for $20 off.

I am hoping for Menards paint at 1/2 the price instead of SW but it will depend on when my husband can eek out time to roll the walls which may be sooner than next week when menards delivery arrives, in that case we will spend more for easy access to SW. In the past I would have done the whole room myself but I am not able now. However I am great at touch-up and trim from eye-level down! Helpful for him too, difficult for him to work from the floor lol. BTW, I am leaning towards semi-gloss throughout all walls in the house, is that tacky? I like the way the light reflects and we have 2 dogs and a toddler and its a mud pit here often so things get messy quickly. I had Keller Williams flat paint in the late 1980's and found it difficult to maintain.
For fresh drywall before you put primer down wipe it all down with a good cloth. I have used a microfiber dust mop before and that worked well. A good coat or two of primer will help "seal" the drywall and make the paint go further and look better.
It's your house. Do what you think is best. We have eggshell or flat through most of the house because there are multiple areas where you can see the seams in the drywall, and I wanted to hide those as much as possible. I'm not good enough with dry wall to repair those without making things worse. The walls look much better with flat paint, but they're just not holding up to the dog and two children. Scrubbing the walls just doesn't work, even with Sherwin Williams and Pittsburgh paints. Anything at waist level or below could really used repainted. The previous owner painted one of the bedrooms with a semigloss. The color was fine so we left it. The sheen looks goofy to me, but the paint is holding up great.
Eggshell is a good compromise if you want to be able to scrub the walls. I use that in the kitchen and it will stand up to repeated cleanings. Up to you of course, in this place if I used semi on the walls they would look terrible... antique plaster has way to many flaws
I like Valspar and Behr. I've never had any bad luck with Behr paints and usually end up using that for my projects. The worst I ever used was a few years back when I remodeled the bathroom. My wife came home with a gallon of Martha Stewart brand paint. No idea who makes that, but it was the worst crap I ever used. Three coats of paint over new drywall that had two coats of primer and it still didn't cover worth a darn. It was a light gray paint, so it's not like I was going with a dark color over light. I'd may as well have been painting with Kool Aid. Just last week I painted a room at our place we just bought up north. It was very dark wood paneling. I washed it with TSP (actually TSP substitute or whatever it's called now as I couldn't find the old fashioned stuff), used two coats of Zinsser BIN primer and one coat of satin Behr paint/primer combo. Nothing showed through and I was happy with the way it turned out.
I like General Paint eggshell finish but I don't know if you can get it in the US. Wiping down fresh drywall before priming is a great idea. Gets rid of all those unseen dusty areas. I tried vacuuming the walls but it is easy to scrape the fresh drywall.
Thanks! The color looks great in different times of day on the kitchen wall, but WOW it has a pink tinge in my "main room"!! New color and we will use satin finish.
There are new scrubbable flat paints. I use one of those mr. Clean eraser sponges for spot cleaning. I use a microfiber clothe for general wall cleaning. I've even used a fine sponge, damp, with good results. The wood work gets the semigloss. The dogs can't resist brushing up on them when the go through an entrance.
Update. We bought Sherwin Williams Duration in satin finish. I was able to paint the corners of my daughters closet tonight so he can roll the walls this weekend, and it smells like PEPPERMINT CANDY. I kid you not! My sniffer could be off, but I asked my husband and he agreed too. nice paint
I only use Sherwin Williams. Expense ...yup. But the coverage is so much better and looks nice for so much longer you come out ahead. We had 5 years with 5 grubby handed kids in our living room and it still looked new. Menards paint is junk...as is most box store paint.
