Gonna be warmer tonight, 28° for the low.
I use the warmer nights to burn the semi-uglies .
Save the straight tighter stacking pieces for colder nights.
No straight nice tight stacking splits here, though the picture don't show it well
    , Bowed, bent , warped, uneven ::::: Semi-uglies:

In the stove. they don't stack as tight, lots of air space, less wood.
They burn a bit faster, but I'll have the stove air lower with the warmer weather.
Easy to get a hot fire cranking quickly & get hot enough to light off the cat .

    Darn
    Should've weighed it .

Specs say 435 lbs for the stove,
maybe I can weigh the whole shebang & figure the weigh of the wood from there.

Next stove will need a scale built in under it LOL :)

Those look nice compared to what I'm tossin' in lately. Got maybe 1/5 cord of those short, fat Oak chunks to get rid of, and those little chunks make nice starters. Normal size 16" rounds on the right. BTW, way to fill 'er up, Dave.

    Looks good & dry.
    You did some re-sizing?

Some of that looks like white oak :) :) Prime stuff !

Good time to burn up the chunks.
You're not burning 24/7 now are you ?

I usually burn junk, in Sept, but was moose hunting,
Wife used the NG furnace :)

I'll separate the uglies & misfits more when I move to the wood shed.
I get about 1/2 cord+ of rejects, good shoulder & firepit wood.

No doubt. I could probably only get 4 of those splits in and I'd have to load east west..

Some's been in the bin 2 yrs, most probably 3. Should be pretty dry since most are cut short, 12" or less...no hissers yet. Yeah, those were cutoff ends, gnarly chunks that wouldn't split, etc. Mostly Red Oak, some White, hard and soft Maple, BL. It's been 20+ below normal temps here for the last couple of days so I've been burning 24/7, two loads a day. Should be back to just one load at night, starting tonight.

We usually burn the uglies during the daytime. Like you said, they don't pack in very well.

Your uglies are straighter than the 2x6 my wife picked for me at the Home Depot!

What do you split your good stuff with, a jointer?
