The difference between almost ready maple and fully ready maple! Same tree, we have been burning from the front row-- stuff split this spring. We are now sampling some from the second row that was split last fall and WOW! So much lighter, so much more flammable! I used the last quarter of the first ever FHC Super Cedar and probably didn't need it because 30 seconds in I noticed that one split was already engulfed!
Good to know. I split a bunch of silver in late august that I plan on using next winter - sounds like it should be good to go!
Its a amazing how much difference there is. But until you experience it, you dont understand it... Great stuff right there...
I was invited to a Halloween party (costumes a must) my niece was throwing last night and they wanted RSVP a while ago. We didn't know if we were going to make it or not. So I sent a text to my brother Friday night and told him we would be coming and pass the word to his daughter. And apologized for the late info. I told them I would be coming as a gassy uncle. It seems most things get more combustible as they age.
Grizz, I have some Maple that I c/s/s this past spring that burns fairly well. The stuff from last year is gooder though.
The maple I have on the porch was css this spring, but I think it's about that dry. I split it all on the small side, and it had a nice sunny spot - mid teens on the MM. It's almost not cold enough outside to start using it. Ran an overnight load of it, and the house is still at 77 degrees. Still a bed of coals left over too; letting it die down a bit before I toss anything else on.
We have burned a little bit just for testing but when it gets cold outside, we'll be burning some 14 year old red oak and a little bit of white oak. Extremely good stuff! There naturally was a few a bit punky but those we'll just burn in the daytime and save the good stuff for nights.
