Went on a black friday joy ride toward back home in SE KS. Had several stop on the way. Got me some work clothes, picked up a freezer, then went got me some wood blocked up. About 250 miles round trip, needless to say I was tired last night to post pics. But went to the Uncles's farm with my dad. I had told the Uncle that I'd get this tree about 3 years ago. It was a leaning Mulberry, split at the base. From the looks of it I'll get the other portion in another couple of years, its starting to get bad in the base. Well the Uncle had marked off several other trees that he wanted taking care of too. So I ended up with a Mulberry, two Thorny Honey Locust and a Hedge. He's got another Honey Locust on the ground thats still alive and a big ash (thats still looks decent shape, its got growth on it too) on the ground. I'll get them when I take the trailer back this winter and I'll bring the machette to take care of those Thorns.... But every thing is blocked up, ready for me to pick up. It was beautiful day outside, highs in the low 40's. The only bad thing was Dad took a bad knee injury a long time ago and aggraviated it yesterday when he was pitching a hedge log to the side. Those knee never truly heal, I know that just from my experience with my knees. The leaning Mulberry. The first Locust... The Second Locust... The Hedge Tree... The Mulberry that I took home...
Yep.... and ease of cutting and easy access. Makes it nice... Brush goes right back into a pile in the woods, makes nice cover for the animals.
Excellent Chvymn99. Some great wood there and more to get. Just feel bad about that knee. Has to be difficult to live with.
Well I took the day off work to go retrieve a truck load of wood (& get a great home cook meal with pumpkin pie ). It looks like two more truck loads to go. I'll probably grab them on Black Friday again this year.
It's all hedge. The dark ends are from being cutting last year. I just cut them blocked them for picking up later. They were just bigger than I wanted to pick up, they got cut down.
Nice haul! Lots of BTU's there. Nothing feels quite as good as the drive home with a load of primo wood.
Some guy in Germantown, Md near DC was selling some hedge last month. I was tempted but he just wanted too much for it. I'm kind of booting myself in the arse for not buying a small amount just to see it burn for myself.
