It's only box elder but I aint gonna let it go to waste. This spring we had a 36" DBH box elder blow down on the end of a 22'x100' green house.

It pretty much ruined about 24' of the GH.

After I got it all cleaned up I hauled the logs out back and told my guys that if they wanted any camp farwood for the summer to take all they wanted. Well its 4 months later and it seems none of them wanted to put the effort into getting some wood. Last night I hauled 1 load home.

Still have another load like that to bring home plus the 10'x36" trunk to cut down and bring home. I know many folks wouldn't go outta their way for box elder but I aint gonna see it just sit there and rot.
Oh, and buy the way, that was not a lot of fun cutting that thing offa the top of that green house.

Great story. Surprised nobody wanted the wood. Even the crappy stuff has a purpose somewhere, even if it's camp firewood.

    Well, do an experiment
after you split up, take it back over, stack it up nice & offer it for free again.

Maybe you should wait a year,
so it's well seasoned before giving it away.

You will get all the exercise, from doing all the work
    LOL :)

Are those Catalpa trees? Too bad it didn't take out that side of the greenhouse! I hate those things! Worst tree ever!

This'll be my 3rd year burning wood for heat. Most (probably 50%) of it the first 2 years was box elder. It seasons fast and burns great............just not real long. I love it!! In my 13NC I averaged about 4-5 hours of usable heat with box elder when I had to really run/push the stove last winter.

    I would've grabbed all I could too!!!!

Over the years we've burned box elder several times. It makes great daytime wood. Why not? It is in the maple family.

The best thing about box elder is on the inside.
