A dealer south of here bought a bunch of the 362 older models and sold them heavily discounted. I debated between the two. For a twenty dollar difference I would take the M Tronic.

Understood. But actually I thought that just very well may be the perfect scenario for me. I'll buy it as is, add a 20" bar and chain, AND, a 28" full skip chain. I'd use the 20" as my main workhorse saw, and throw on the 28 every once in a blue moon when I have a big un to deal with.

But just making sure I get the right model. Not so concerned with the price... 20 here or there won't kill me.

Even if you are impartial about mtronic the air filtration is a worthwhile upgrade over regular 362.

Your suggesting a 70cc for the 25 or 28", right? Well, 90% of my work is on relatively small stuff! I don't want to lug around a monster to cut 10 and 15" rounds. I just want something that can deal with some big stuff every now and then, instead of me spending hours hacking away at it (noodling and or cutting from both sides...).

    Stihl made these 3 models.
    MS 362
    MS 362C-M
    MS 362C-M R

The C-M (bottom 2 models) are Mtronic and have zero adjustments for the carb. Also, they both only say 362C on the clutch cover. A saw with Mtronic is constantly tuning itself for optimum power.

The very top model, is a plain Jane model that needs a tiny little screwdriver to adjust for optimum power ;)

There is not a "no tool" chain adjuster model, or an easy start model.

I highly doubt one says C-M on the clutch cover. The "C" model is a C-M.

Sounds like you've got a good game plan, just make sure the oiler will work for a 28" bar...Plus :ithappened:of it when it happens...:dex:

Don't forget the Quickstop models with the extra chainbrake.

    MS362
    MS362CQ
    MS362CM
    MS362CMQ
    MS362RCM

Plus many of their pro saws like the 362 were offered in Arctic models with heated handles.

I think you'd be happier with a 50/70 cc combo.

I ran a 28" bar on a 64cc Dolmar. Not ideal, but it got the job done, nuts deep in a few 4'+ red oaks. It's much better on a 79cc saw

I'd say since Stihl is so much more awesomer, it would be just fine for occasional use.

I'm pretty sure it does, I could be wrong, I looked at 400+ saws yesterday in 2 shops, but I spent a lot of time looking/comparing these 3 with the clerk trying to research the difference in the models. I'll be back today, will snap a photo to confirm.

Yep, and one of them did also have the Q also, I was leaving that out to simplify it a bit, and know what that feature is.

huh? Somebody makes a saw that runs at 50 and 70?? OR, your saying I should ditch the 40cc echo, and get 2 new Stihl saws: one 50cc (362M) and a 70cc (441 ?) ? Ok, can you please call my wife and explain to here the $2000 expenditure? If you survive the phone call, I'll buy the 2 saws!! ;)

Yes, good question. I understand it is an extra quick chain brake for safety, but how does it work, and is it just another PITA safety thing we really don't want? Honestly, much of the new "safety" crap on tools makes them un-safe to use!

A 440 weighs less then a pound more than a 362. You'll be done cutting so much sooner you won't mind the extra weight. Watch the classifieds nice ones can be had for ~$500.

Then get a 346xp for ~$300 if you want to upgrade the echo.

You'll be Firewood cutters nirvana for about the cost of that overweight 362.

I could've sworn I picked up a 441 (?) in the shop, and it weighed (or felt like) 25+ lbs! And, it was huge. The 441 has no specs listed in the resources file with the Stihl specs.... is the 440 that much lighter than the 440?

If I saw one for $500, i'd prolly buy it..... but ... I'm never that lucky. The only one in the classifieds sold 2 days before I decided to search for a bigger saw....
