I might have been tempted to rent a core drill for that part of the job. Block wasn't bad at all. It took me about an hour start to finish for both holes.

Missed the rebar, I could see where it is in the impressions before I started. I did hit 2 HARD spots of rock. Eventually the drill bit broke them.
Today I used my air chisel and wow, what a difference over the hammer/chisel.

Almost there, another 3-4" and I am through. Then I can round out the hole better with the air chisel.

I was going to since Home Depot had then for rent. But it had to be mounted on the wall with ancors. Didn't want to get involved with all that. If they had one I could put on my drills would have.

    Woot woot:dancer:
Got it nicely rounded with ease.....$8 air chisel did wonders! Pipe slides through without rubbing!
I'll paint up where it chipped off, if the collar doesn't cover.
You can see my original plan for the hole, but that's why you ALWAYS measure twice. Outside I realized I was too high and 2" away from the vinyl siding. Now I am 6" away and have over 15" of ground clearance

    Nice job!!

That is a good looking hole and a very thick poured wall!! :dex:

What's the R-value difference of a block wall over a poured wall? Has to be considerably higher.

Not real sure but think even a non filled block wall provides more r value, and loses less from convection because of air spaces.Lived in old thick stone wall house back in MD,very cold!

Always good to see daylight (and have the pipe slide through).

    Nice job.

I have worked in 100 year old basements that had the same, stone walls. It sometimes felt colder than outside.

Guys, the manual says to use 3" duct for outside air. First, I have a 3" duct and it's too big to fit on there. Second, the screw that adjust the damper is almost on edge so there is barly enough room without going over the screw.

What are you using that fits on the back 2 1/2"?

Do you go over the screw head?

You could probably find a 90° adapter to go on the 2.5" intake.

I just clipped the 3" flex pipe, so it can collapse a little and used a hose clamp and tightened it on the back portion (what little is there) making sure to go I'm front of the nut for the damper.

Can snap a pic if needed.

I used a car exhaust adapter I had laying around in the garage. One end slides right over the air intake, and I crunched down the flex duct on the other side of the adapter and hose clamped it down. It only slides on the air intake pipe 3/4 of an inch or so, but it doesn't fall off.

Here is my intake rig. Complete with the walker exhaust part number. At least I think it was a walker part number.

I figure the inlet was 2.5" since the 3" was big. Does the inlet have to be sealed like with RTV like the Vent?

No need to seal it. You may need to disconnect it if you have a windy day (sometimes strong winds can affect the burn). I disconnect mine in the summer and cover the OAK inside and out to help keep the warm/humid air from getting into the furnace and the basement.
