I currently haul wood with a little 4x10 trailer with a 2000# axle. I'd really like to bump up to something a little heavier duty

What Id like is a tandem axle 5x10. I see that big tex makes one (model 45la-10), and was wondering if anyone had one and had any thoughts? Also wondering what the cost is like. On that note, do you think it'd be cheaper to go a custom builder route? I found a guy in NC that has some great prices, but haven't had any luck finding someone in GA...

You'll probably have to go to at least a 6x12 to get a tandem axle in any trailer that I know of.

5×10×3= 150... or about a cord of wood VERY tightly stacked....which isn't going to weigh more than 4500....I would get more trailer to sit on those axles.

Yea if you go tandem go bigger. Those tiny ones are kind of pointless as you can't really use the capacity of the axles.

There is a place in harlem GA that I go by for work. They advertise in the I wanna from time to time. They make a tandem axle 16 foot landscape style trailer with the rails and no gate for $1450 or so. I have a pic somewhere. I will try and dig it up.

6x12 is often the smallest size most tandems are offered in.

It will if it's green oak but I agree on I would buy more trailer to ride on two 3500# axles.

Small tandem axle trailers are often built/sold to transport small rollers around.

bigbarf48 Why the 5x10? Do you have some kind of limit on how big the trailer can be physically? a 6x12 or 6x14 would be far more useful. At least go 6' wide, 5' is very limiting.

I really just don't need the extra size. It needs to fit into my back yard between a tree and the fence, and 6' wide would be cutting it close. Smaller is just more maneuverable for me. I don't need to fit a whole cord in back, but would have no problem fitting a cord in a 5x10 with sideboards if I wanted to

The 4x10 I use now hasn't bothered me in terms of dimensions, just weight capacity.

Big tex is the only company I've found that makes a production tandem axle 5x10

The reason I want the tandem, is if I'm gonna drop the money on a new trailer, I don't ever want to worry about overloading it with wood. In a 5x10 I don't think I would

Why not get your size trailer wanted built on a 5k pound single axle?

I wouldn't be opposed to that, just hadn't seen any listed with that weight axle

These are popular locally, I like how they are built too.

Tube or pipe top rails on the trailer will make a stronger trailer (even if they don't say so on the spec sheet. )

They don't build them shorter than 16' however unless you specify a custom built unit.

My must haves for a new tandem axle utility trailer?

1.) Brakes on BOTH axles. This is law in some states. Also a REALLY nice feature is for the trailer brakes to be self adjusting.
2.) HD jack set back from the coupler. This makes sure it will clear the tailgate should you need to open it with the trailer connected.
3.) EZ Lube hubs on the axles. Makes packing wheel bearings a thing of the past, just hook up a grease gun and give it a couple shots. If maintenance is made easy, you'll be much more likely to actually do it.
4.) LED lighting all the way 'round. Thank me later.

There is also best built trailers In Grove town Ga.

You dont see many single axle small trailers on 5k axles cause most small trailers dont haul heavy weight. Just atv's junk and lawnmowers.

I google for TNT but can't find their site. I am pretty sure that is the name and thought they had a basic site but can't find it now .

Any trailer builder will slap a 5 k axle and stronger frame on a trailer if you want.

What about a little dump trailer? You can get a 5x8 single axle or a 5x10 tandem.

I prefer the largest I can store, that way I can haul a suv/car/wood etc.

Storage and maneuverability around the yard is the problem. I really don't have space for wider than 5' if I want to get it in the back yard. And much more than 10 ft long hooked to an extended cab/long bed w250 becomes unwieldy in my size yard. That's why I decided on 5x10 in terms of size

I was thinking tandem just for the peace of mind that weight capacity gives. A single 3500# axle may be fine though I suppose. But bigger is better :D

That'd be nice, but I assume those are pricey right?

Dump trailer have tall sides so you gain some there. All that steel is spendy.
