I have shaved enough over the years, I don't need a mirror. So what if one side burn is 2" higher than the other.
He either has a small head or a large sink.. The jury will give the verdict tomorrow, stay tuned.. Ray
Just got a safety razor and some decent blades from Grizzly's Paw and I am fairly impressed. Seems like it tugs on the hairs less and just cuts the dammed things.
Been wet shaving probably over 5 years now (forget the actual start) I have a Merkur Futur (love it). And an old school made in Canada open comb Gillette from what I guess is the 30's, also a great razor. Blades wise, I use Feathers. Ive tried just about everything else and Feathers are the sharpest the longest. Brush is an Omega. Nothing fancy. Someday I will treat myself to a something badger. Creams and soaps? I got a lot of them, but my daily use one is common old Prorasso White with the pre-cream. Cheap and effective. Other faves are Col. Konks (cheap, easy on the face, hard to get local) and the grand daddy of my favourites is Truefitt and Hill Trafalgar cream (expensive but a tub lasts a year, it whips up into the best lather!) I do it more for the cost savings. A pack of Feathers is way cheaper than a pack of Fusion whatevers. You dont need an expensive razor like a Futur to start, old school Gillette safety razors can be found in antique stores or ebay for cheap. Blades can be bought at Walmart (Wilkinson Swords, not as sharp and smooth as Feathers, but good in a pinch). Soaps and brushes are readily available too. Give it a try.
I shave my face in the shower. Don't have a heavy beard, but wear a goatee. Can get around the goatee in the shower without a mirror just fine...........only a tweak or two once out of the shower.
Haliluja they still sell the old style double edge safety razor!! I spent a fortune over the years on electric razors, replacement heads, and cartridge razors for DH. $$$$$. It grows fast and thick, if he misses one day with the electric, he blows through a couple cartridges, that clog in one short swipe (even after "knocking off the big stuff with a trimmer), spends most his time rinsing and tapping the razor on the side of the sink rather than shaving. The blades are dirt cheap and it doesn't clog and rinses easily. Cut his shave time in 1/2 and is kinder on his skin.
Our toddler was terrified when her daddy returned from a hunting trip! She had never seen him with a beard.
I shave in the shower… wash my face first and leave the soap on., Then I re-wash my face, leave the soap on and shave. Nice and smooth…
That's why I want to switch. I hate shaving but when I do no matter how much I knock off I clog a razor fast. No matter if it's a single blade or one of those gazillion blade super sharp laser guided things. I cut myself bad enough with a single blade. 3 is worser.
and disposable cartridges that have the button to push to eject the hair only work on womens legs, not mens beards. I bought his at Sally Beauty Supply, not sure if that store is out there. The blades are like $1.75 per 5 pack at the grocery store.
Yea we have them. Matter fact I was in one the other day but did not think to look for a razor. The things you do when super bored at work.
I'll second the Feather Brand blades. They've been the best blades I've used during the past 3 years I switched to DE from the Fusion. I'd also recommend getting some TABAC ORIGINAL SHAVING SOAP instead of the creams. I ordered my Tabac soap via Amazon in July 2013 and I'm still using the same bowl almost a year and a half later. I shave once a week on avg. I originally used Taylor of Old Bond St Cream and I used it up in about 4 months. With the shaving soap you can apply a little to your wet face and use it to clean off your face, rinse, then apply a thick coating and start shaving. It's tripled milled so its a lot tougher than the cream and youll get a good lather with less product. I wouldnt be surprised if I end up getting 2 years out of 1 jar. I havent bought blades since Nov 2012 lol. Picked up a 20 pk of Feathers for less than $7 and am still using them. I think I have about 4 left.
Here's a couple good places. Plenty more if you get into this in a big way. Italianbarber.com Westcoastshaving.com
also maggardrazors.com I sport a goatee for the Mrs... But I normally use a straight razor. I have several and have been doing it the old fashioned way for a few years now. I also sometimes use a DE (double edge) if I am in a hurry. I have converted Mrs Coach, a couple of coworkers, and a few family members. This FHC place would seem like a good fit for the vintage wet shavers: lower cost - just like heating with wood better quality - just like heating with wood sharp tools - chainsaws anyone? the list goes on.
