This thing is not even close to the HF unit. I knew they wouldnt be but am amazed at the quality and value here! You get all the wheels the dressing stone and gauge too!! I resharpenes one of my fresh ground chains and wow it was all over the place. Not sure which angle is right as the HF grinder was a larger top plate angle than the rough neck both set at 30. And its way more solid and the motor is strong. The HF unit would bogg up on 3/8 chain. This one has tons of power. One question the 60° angle do I look on the back of the border behind the chain or on the very back top by the knob? They dont match up as it set the top one at 60° and it shows 55° on the back. The back wall looks right as it was close to the old grinder but who knows if thats right? This thing has a tiny amount of slop compared to the HF grinder that is like a wet noodle compared to this thing!
That yellow is lots prettier than the dark red mine came in a year back. How are the current OEM wheels? Mine are a bit wobbly. The ones by MoleMab and Oregon run much truer- should ease things for the bearings.
Congrats on the purchase Clem. For the money, they are not a terrible machine at all. Much (MUCH) better than the HF unit! As for angles? My numbers match and we're confirmed by angle finder. But even if it 55°, that won't be bad. It will give you more hook and a steeper top plate angle (faster).
I got the deal that was posted. It was on sale for $99 and I threw in a pair of safety glasses with it to get another $20 off. Then had it shipped to the store in the town my mother in law lives for free. She picked it up and delivered it last night to me So i basically got the gronger for $80+tax.
Yea, mine is off by a few degrees too. I just set it to the front gauge and went about grinding. The wood chips and noodles are proof in the pudding....
That many people cant be too wrong... I run my chain business with one and so far had to replace the switch once. Not to bad considering. It certainly does a good job. Glad you like it clem...
I called timber tuff and they shipped it fast all they asked was when was it purchased. I said last year they said ok good enough and dropped it in the mail I had it less than a week later. They have excellent US based call reps!
Finally got mine straightened out and ground some guides with it today. Was nice not having to retool my 311 between tasks. Not a huge fan of the vise , may look at swapping in a 511 vise if possible.
