I have a didier splitter, and I have a question about the low pressure side of the pump. I had a leak all last winter around the bung fitting on the hydraulic tank, well I fixed that. Well when I was disassembling the hose and fitting going from the tank to the pump to re-dope I discovered something new to me. This is where I need you guys, the fitting going into the pump is just shoved into the pump, the end going into the pump is beveled? I thought maybe it held in there with friction, until splitting today and it popped/raddled out? All was fine until I broke the seal, is there a o ring in the pump side that could be junk? I just wanted some info before I drain the oil and look. Thanks in advance guys/gals.

Did you cross thread it when It it back in ?? NPT tapered is what you should be seeing.

There was no threads the cross literally smooth with a tapered edge. It went as easy as it came out, was really surprised it stayed in all there years like that (35 years!) when it popped out I was attempting to just take hose off the fitting when it came out.

Not always NPT. SAE port is more common with hydraulics in pumps.

But cross threading sounds like it might be the issue

This fitting is fine and doesn't leak if I hold it in the hole and don't let it rattle out. Sounds bad!

That is the return hose . its not under pressure. Hose clamp is all that's needed

That is all that is on the fitting, but the fitting going in the pump is what is falling out?

Any idea how that fitting stays in the pump? It is smooth with a tapered end.

Pics would help. Not a pic from a assembly. Like I said before its probably SAE threads. SAE, SAE, SAE ,SAE, SAE

Had the same type of fitting on my pump. It is just pressed in with NO threads. I just cleaned it up good and used some sleeve retainer and smacked it back in the hole.

Why all the SAE's? Sarcasm......I will dive into it another day, but like I said there isn't threads. Unless the threads ripped off the fitting smooth, doubtful. Thanks for the help

Thanks Gary, so it was pressed in there? I'm gonna have to stop at Napa and look for sleeve retainer. Really amazed it has stayed in there all these years without leaking.

Well you want answers to problems your having without details or pics of your assembly. Most hydraulics use SAE or NPT.

Although mine looked to be around 3/4 inch. Looks like yours is bigger. Never did figure out why they did that.

Your right it is 3/4" the hose makes it look much bigger.
