Was working on the small dumptruck this evening, pulled it out and went to put the skid steer in (keep it parked in there so it's warm in the morning). Windows were iced up, but I thought I could see fine. Grabbed a grapple load of ~3ft cottonwood logs for the stove. Thought I cleared the door opening... well I didn't. One log was sticking out a bit further than I could see and I caught the very edge of it against the garage door opening. Ripped the whole freaking wall off the floor and pushed it in about 18" before I realized. Noticed because all the junk in that corner started falling over. Door opening is 10x14... would figure I'd have enough room huh? Got the wall pushed back in place, door still closes fine, though not sure how to really fix it since it's not attached to the slab anymore. Also popped off all the wood siding.
It's an 8" think wall insulated and OSB both sides and cottonwood clapboard over that on the outside. Not sure how it was tied in before, I guess I'll figure something out tomorrow when I tell the shop owner.
Sorry to hear that happened man, that sucks. Is that have anything to do with too many cold meds and running heavy machinery?
I'm wondering if maybe it got hit before, cause it didn't resist at ALL. I was creeping in and I felt NOTHING. I've had 2" sticks get caught up while moving logs and about put the skid steer on it's nose. I just heard crash, clink, bang of all the scrap steel piled against that wall falling down. I opened the skid steer door, thinking the log had hit the a piece of steel and I see the wall.... I guess with running heavy equipment and trucks everyday I was due at some point. Last boo boo was in 2008, backed into my friends BRAND NEW 2500 Dodge, $1800 damage. Zero damage to my Dodge!
We pretty much laughed it off today. I think I will make some bollards though. No I was joking about the cold meds, just a screw up is all.
Got any 6"+ steel pipe? Set it as deep as you can and fill it with concrete. You'll know when/if you hit that.
I truly cannot say that I'd admit to doing what you did on a public forum!!!! And in "honor" of our "Terms and Definitions" thread........................... WTF were you thinking!!! You evidently didn't take a SWAG before you did what you did!!! Your wife probably came running out of the house yelling OMG. And when she found out you were OK, she probably called you a DAMF for not wearing your PPE. You then tell her to shut her "primary air control" or you'll make her breathe though her "secondary air control" for a while...........or wrap a "cord" around her neck. She replies that you'll be in the "dog house" breathing nothing but OAK until you say you're sorry for your "overfired" comments. You say that her "thermostat" is on the cold side anyhow and that you were just trying to improve your "wood" so that she stays warm..................................
Me too, I was fairly sure that's what he's planning to build. We did a few with 8" pipe at work to prevent any lead footed drivers from backing into a 20 million dollar machine.....
