Today I'm building the hearth using a premade stove board as the top of the hearth. I don't really want to tile nor do I have the time. I am going to build a hearth box and set that on the top of two sheets of r rated cement board. We finally hammered out the install details with the new inspector who is very good...... It's a decorative appliance so I can install according to the manual just as you guys said. The old inspector is under investigation for other issues and when I told them about the issues it was an instant switch over to the new guy. I'll post pics as I go today. :D I AM SO HAPPY! :hair:

Well here's an odd one to me.... All the manual calls for is a fireproof pad ul listed. I called the manufacturer for the R-value and was told that it really didn't matter as long as there was a floor pad to stop fires put down. Called the county who said if that's what the manual calls for then that's what you do... Apparently the bottom doesn't get hot.

    adding a stove...

Yup adding a pelpro pp60 to run when we are gone a few hours a day.. It should eliminate the gas bill between the two completely. I'll have pics of the hearth build tomorrow for you all to see. I had a major stopping block today but it's fixed.

A pellet stove only needs ember protection. So any non combustible surface will sufice. Those boards work great and it's what I use upstairs.

Any updates on the install? Up and out?

Here is hoping it all goes well for you and you can install it the way you want to.

Done pellet stove require a thermal board. For example, mine..... Went back and forth with the dealer a few times because they weren't aware of the requirement for my stove.
