You may recall my bragging about a nice white coating in the fire box using a certain brand. A bit ashy but clean ... (in my sig)
Ok...sorry for the delay...very busy time of year .... First off let me say, I'm sorry you aren't happy with our pellets Spock. I can state that since we have started selling this product just over 2 years ago, I have sold 10's of thousands of tons of them and I can count on one hand, less a couple of fingers how many people have had trouble with them.......or at least that have been reported to me. If there was a more wide spread problem with them, not only would my phone light up, but I just wouldn't get repeat after repeat orders on them as we do. That said, let's address your issue. Tell me what you would like to do and what you feel is fair. Within reason, I would like to make this right for you and not leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth about our pellets. We stand behind our products, but that isn't to say they may just not work for you. As everyone knows, or should, every stove is pellet specific and not all pellets will burn the same in every stove. I have no idea if this is just a few bags or your stove....but tell me what you would like to do.....
Spock where did you buy em? I have 6 tons from Royal Fireside in the basement. I have only burned one bag and it was mixed in with left over AWF white pine pellets. Wife snuck it into the stove while I was sick. I was trying to burn all the AWF softies before proceeding to the Okies. I have the same stove (Harman XXV). I am going to with hold any judgement until I burn em in my stove. we have some weather coming up where I will be burning some might let the hopper burn down and start burining the Okies now to see what the results are. My pellets were outside at my place for only a day or two before they came into my basement and the basement is kept at or below 50% RH. When unloading I did notice 1 or 2 bags on the top layer on a single pallet (out of the 6) that had some evidence of a bit of water exposure. Right in the center of the bags the pellets were more orange in color and had some extra sawdust. there were a few droplets of water present. Like I said only saw it in 1 or 2 bags, not a biggie by me stuff happens in storage, nothing I would bitch and moan about, I seem to end up with 1-4 bags a year that end up this way. another thing i did notice with the oakies is the bags seem to have pin holes in them, the holes seem to be in rows leading me to think it is intentional, they defineately are not sealed like most other pellets. Most pellets bags I have handled (AWF softies, Turmans, Barefoots, Spruce Pointes, LaCretes, and several others) seem to be sealed. Most of those brands a lot of the pellets bags seem hard, almost vacuum sealed, likely a result of pellets being warmer than the room when bagged, once bagged they will cool creating a bit of a vacuum effect. This wasn't the case with the Oakies. Doug is this normal for all Oakies? Is there a reason? Seems like it could let in mositure.
I don't think it's a little bit of moisture that would cause his issues. I had three bags of TSC (MWP) that were 3/4 pellets 1/4 clumps of sawdust from getting wet. They were the first three bags I burned in there entirety, just dumped them right in the hopper, burned fine.
Moisture may have caused the blackness in the stove, But Clinkers are formed when there is too high of a sodium/salt content. Lab testing should have tipped them off. Real world test never lies!!
The pin holes you mention are normal. They are in all of the bags I have this year (not just Okies). They let the bags breathe so they can compress and change shape for stacking and storage, rather than acting like rigid balloons that will just roll around, this way and that.
Mr Warm, Doug. It is finally nice to make your acquaintance. Your presence here on my thread speaks volumes about your commitment to your product and your personal integrity. I became an Okie burner last season with the purchase of the Platinum's and enjoyed the the hot clean burns. It was worth the premium price to me spending less time cleaning and maintain my stove. The Platinum's delivered in' Spades'. That is what your pellet represents on the market. This season my dealer did not have Platinum's and only offered the Gold. Without a second thought I paid the premium price to enjoy the promise of your product. To my disappointment I now question that decision. I would gladly except the Platinum as a replacement for my current stock. I understand Platinum's are not readily available in this area so I would also accept the Douglas Fir product as a replacement. I have enjoyed your product and would like to continue to do so. Tim
What no beer? I bet they took it private! Would hope so anyway. Doug, Glad your standing behind your stuff, Spock, Don't let him beat ya up!
Just so you all know the PM's are safe here. We do not have the ability to read them or would we want to.
I should know better to check the end of the thread first. I will leave it up to you guys to have one for me, but I do like the promotional advertising Miller Light is using these days, they can call a personal foul on me anytime
