Those are excellent. They are not meant to be perfect, but that is what makes them perfect.

Thanks Jon, and I agree. Made two more tonight, and we have a pile of people that want them in our area.....so I may have to take on the pine job over the mountain this week so I have some material to work with.

Made two more tonight, another real big one and a medium sized one, and did them both in an hour. Getting faster already. ..lol...

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! Really, they ain't that hard to make......just takes some envisioning and patience.....

Wifey wants me to start saving some of the big pine and hemlock rounds over the fall and winter so we can set up a booth next fall at some local festivals and sell them....lol.

I will say each one i make gets easier.....

After reading this post, kind of kicking myself for noodling a big gum stump yesterday - it would have made a monster pumpkin

Decided to give it a try. I'm not an artist by any means, but not too bad for a first attempt. Made out of red oak. IMAG0663.jpg

I posted before I was ready. I whittled these two out this morning for a benefit auction. Your pumpkins are looking good, if you can do that you can carve other stuff too. Pumpkins are a hot seller this time of year. One tip to speed things up is to cut you a carving block bigger than the piece you are carving and make it about 2 feet high. Screw your block to carve onto the carving block with decking screws, I usually use two, one on each side. It makes for a faster and safer carve and easier on the back.

This is not only really cool, it's really approachable! A pumpkin is a manageable shape to attempt and the end result really does look extremely nice! Again awesome work on this Scotty, this really looks like a fun project to attempt some day. Thanks for the inspiration.

I made a total of 8 pumpkins this fall. Just cleared all the fall decorations off of the porch and had a heck of a time putting away the 4 huge pumpkins I kept for dear wifey, they take up quite a bit of space and being they are still green, they are HEAVY..... next week I'll attempt a snowman put of a 4' long round.....wish me luck.....
