So number one. If you haven't f-ed up your hearing yet wear your hearing protection.

But since I didn't listen to my mother I did f up my hearing. My right ear is really bad with the higher frequencies and it was really hard for me to hear my wife and basically impossible for me to hear anybody if there was any background noise. It took me about 15 years to admit that fact and with some repeated prodding from my wife so off I went to the ear Dr. I am amazed at how much it helps. The background noise problem is almost completely mitigated. I was out in a crowd place this evening and I could hold a conversation without turning my good ear to who I was speaking with.

The ear piece is open so you hear what you can around the tiny speaker that is in your ear. It just bumps up the frequencies that you can't hear well. It is light and tiny, no where near what your grandfather had. Much smaller than a blue tooth ear clip on thingie.

So if you are a fool like me and messed up your hearing, fess up to it and get to the ear Dr.

I 2nd that. In my mis-spent youth the guns tractors with no cabs rocknroll harleys straight pipe pickups did me in. Wish I had a dime every time I need to say what was that. Wife finally realized it wasn't just her I can't hear.

When I was younger I helped a speech and hearing pathologist build fence on his farm. He drove the point of hearing protection home. Now I buy the 80 pair pack of foam plugs from Lowes and often double them up with the ear muff style protection.

I still have ringing in my ears from time to time. Probably my time spent in the Army. Other than the ringing my hearing is good.

I think it is great when people know when to say when and get some help with their hearing. It helps a lot more people than just them, their family also reaps the rewards.

I get regular physicals and have seen my hearing is decreasing in one ear so I take care to wear hearing protection around loud noise. My father is deaf in his right ear and about half in his left. He got some really cool hearing aides from the VA. He was in the Navy in the early 60s in the engine room on a destroyer and blamed alot on that. I agree on hearing protection at a young age, also all other protection also!

I got it at the ear Dr's office. Widex brand. Dr. Office price was $1700. It wasn't out of line with Internet vendors. Have to see what insurance has to say about it though. It also had a few hours of the audiologist's time bundled in along with a years supply of batteries and the other stuff you need.

Now what are going to use for an excuse when the wife keeps asking you to do something during a game?

The ringing the eternal ringing. Its in both but more so in the left. Every minute of every day it sucks. If there is background noise forget even having a prayer of understanding what is being said. It sucks.

Good point, thank you. Blaring TV's and raising voices or repeating things become taxing on loved ones. Dear Daughter will not go out for skeet practice unless one of us can get her to wear ear protection.
