    Welcome to the forum Coach.

Sounds like you will have a great winter this year. On the amount of wood for heat, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I fondly recall 7 years ago when we bought our Woodstock Fireview. Previously, in our old Ashley we put 6 cord or more through it and one winter we put well over 7 cord through it. When I first saw the Fireview I laughed and sort of scoffed. How on earth would that little stove keep us warm. As it was, we were used to closing off part of the house and still about froze in the winter months. After getting the Fireview, we found our average to be 3 cord per winter. I'm betting you too will see the same results.

You might also look at this web page here on Resourses: http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/for.../primer-on-woodburning-by-backwoods-savage.6/

When you go there you will find a pdf to download with lots of information. Good luck.

Howdy Coach. Not trying to be a coach, but let me suggest a GOOD 5-6 lb maul. Meaning flat faces & sharp edge, some of which I've re-done with a 7" angle-grinder from big-box cheapies. My bet is you'll find it much more productive than 8 or 12 lb.

Efficient stove is a huge help. Years back I found that a tiny Morso stove didn't need help from the gas furnace. Normal winter- 1.5 cords, last winter 2 cords. New Morso stove is a further step up. Easy to keep many years inventory of wood.

Hmmm, "Good" maul... Mine does not have flat faces, but I don't have too much problem with it. I like the weight, makes me feel like I was back coaching wrestling again with all the mean sadistic exercises I made my guys do...

ALL suggestions are welcome and thanks for advice CTYank.

We estimate that we go through 12-16 face cords of wood a year.... I know 4-5 cords. My farmer friends have the outside wood boilers and they heat way more house (and barns) with a lot less wood. The wood also needs less processing and can be burned a bit green. But I will be happy with less wood going up the stack.
