Got home today and found this next to my top covered stacks: The problem is they only stacked half of the rounds. I have let the tree services in the area know that if they have a local job and need to get rid of some wood they can dump it in my processing area. Looks like the main trunks of two red oaks. Wish they had left their card or something so I know who to thank... To the left is this season's wood. Three year seasoned red and white oak. The leaves have started falling so I top covered the stacks over the weekend. I only have about 6 to 8 inches between stacks and when the leaves get in there they stop the air flow. KaptJaq
OMG thats funny On a serious note though you cant beat coming home to a nice load like that sitting and waiting for you.
No hydraulics necessary, I still split the old fashioned way. Those clean oak rounds make such a crisp "crack" sound when the maul hits them just right. KaptJaq PS I hope I never run into that wood fairy, scary but strong enough to stack the rounds....
Of the "contacts" I've made with the tree services, I've yet to even see a surprise delivery!!! I wouldn't go B&Ming too much if I were you!!!
Kaptjaq- The way I see it you have two options. 1. If whatever tree service can't get it right and stack all the rounds, quit them! or 2. Be sure to buy the Mrs. her own maul so when she is done scrounging, she can split!

Often wondered what that wood fairy looked like- they say the eyes heal quickly, but I think it's going to be a long session with a bottle of single barrel scotch for the memory retention area.
I'm just happy when my tree service contact dumps in my backyard 2-3 times yearly.No brush & most everything is 14"+ diameter with just a few pieces 4" to 8"in size.Most of that White Oak last December was 20 to 38" diameter up to 4 foot long.Dont get lucky like that too often.
I envy those of you that get all that Oak. I am not complaining though as the wood fairies have brought Maples ( Silver , Norway, Sugar) , Ash( White?), Elm (red?) and Honey Locust about 16 cords CSS in total. Still working on the Honey Locust - been raining since late Sunday afternoon off & on so has restricted completion. Managed to cube up some of the 30+ inchers of HL yesterday early morning and last evening & ran out of saw mix. Big pile of noodles - will use that in the girls kennel area. Sorry don't have the camera here today.
Good looking wood stack there...If you got Honey Locust in your stack, you aint missing nuttin' with oak not being in there. Plus the smell of a fresh split from Honey Locust......
