Thought about building on for chit and giggles. Apparently the heads are a couple hundred lbs. I think they may be popular in Europe but don't quote me on that.

No gas, no fumes, no engine noise. Some advantages, but also some limitations. Bet it builds a strong arm.

Inertia can be impressive. The more solid the base, the better too. Lot easier pulling down than lifting up, for sure. That spring is perfect.

Simple spring from a car. I think I might put one of these together.

If you do keep us updated please. I have a hydraulic splitter but don't like running it when the kids have friends over.

I wonder if a combo of both ideas could happen. Flywheel, run by elec motor, pulls that arm, with the wedge on it, higher than the spring would bounce it back... pulling down on the handle could release from the up mode completely, giving more down speed and weight... push up lightly on the "down" handle again, and the flywheel picks it all back up for the next whack, setting it on a "catch" that the down handle releases. Be fun to design, build and use. Gonna need pics Augie... ;)

What do they do when it wedge gets stuck in the wood? Sledge? In the video it all looks like nice, easy splitting wood.

And perhaps rely on your wood being of the European straight grain type. Few species over here on this side of the pond would split so easily, unless no branches ever sprung forth....

They cut the woods short about 35 cm so can easy split with a simple axe , the most people use axes , only companies that sale woods use machines, in some countries you take license and can go to forest and cut trees or can colect what the companies left is very cheap if you do it yourself cost about 15-20 euros for a one cm3 firewoods

3 cubic meters is close to a US cord so with the exchange rate our cord prices should be close to 3 1/3 dollars for each euro you might expect to pay for a cubic meter. If you pay 30 euro for a cubic meter that is like paying $100 for a cord. Maybe that conversion will help you understand our prices.
