Yesterday was perfect for a burn. Dropped everything and went for it. 8 hours grabbing piles of brush down along the brush dump area. Didn't have the camera, so it might not have happened... This morning, I went out to check on the ash bed and could still feel plenty of heat. Nice to not have to start the fire again... just stir and add brush. Away it went. Weather man said it was gonna get windy later in the morning (the 10 o'clock winds) and he was right on. I pulled back adding to the fire at 9 and by 10... well, I'll add a pic of the leaf blizzard. Glad I got the fire down by then. Here's proof... Second claw mouth full... dropped the whole load in... As this load was dying down, the winds were picking up. Here's the leaf blizzard telling me it was time... Got the fire down quick. Ashes were starting to blow and the woods full of dry leaves is only 50' away. If the wind dies down this afternoon, I'll have to drive some more claw fulls in there. Gawd, I love this stuff.
I seriously need to do the same. One side of the drive is loaded with old dried up Spruce branches that need burning. Some other stuff too, but I just can't find the time or energy right now. Maybe when it starts snowing. Looks like you got a lot done.
Winds did die down... whew, wadda night. Nice. Here's part 2... I'm pooped. Gotta eat sumthin and clean up. Good day. I've still got half of the piles of brush/debris left to burn. So far I've grabbed about 20 loads, in 4 different burns, and tossed em in. Might go at it again tomorrow. Dunno if my bride will let me take 3 days in a row... perty rare. The side of the trail, where I had all these piles, is starting to look a little better.
Nice work Stinny! Man, you got rid of a lot of stuff in one day. Time for a little relaxing. Thanks for sharing the great pics!
Boy, those spruce branches oughta burn fast. Maybe that's what Rocky's burnin. Handling branches one at a time is a lot of work, especially big pine/spruce. Do you have an area for a pile or do you toss it in a firepit too?
Nice clean up job, feels good I bet to get things cleaned up and have a big outdoor fahrr! I don't have a great spot to have an big outdoor burn. You got me thinking now.... I've been piling up my brush all in one spot in the woods. Hopefully it never catches on firs since it's getting pretty big now!
Is the area where you pile the branches big enough to burn, during the winter? Maybe cover it to keep the snow off until your were ready? Sounds like a fun burn with a big pile.
No, I'm pretty sure I would start a small forest fire in its existing location. It would be a badder thing I think.
My woods are so wet I cut the up branches and let them rot on the ground. Helps the tractor from rutting up the ground.
A few good conflagratioins going on there. Got it cleaned up - good deal! Its scary how hot the flames get when ya can't even get within 10 feet of the peak burn.
This is true. I've burned some huge fires over the years. I always try to wait until it is raining or it has rained very recently. I think we all like controlled fire.
Or empty beer cans either... Both used to be part of my routine. Now, I just zone out watchin' the fires go. Maybe I'll burn a dog next time Larry...
A few times when some buddies and I were having a couple cold ones around the fire I brought out some hot Italian sausage links. Speared them with some thin metal spears, can't remember what they were originally for(LOL), and cooked them over the open fire. Man, throw them in a roll with some mustard on them. Mmmmmmm
Sorted out some of the remaining brush/branch piles. They were a tangled up mess and I couldn't just grab and go anymore with a load for the fire. Pulled a couple rocks out too. Some junk that was all tied up in the middle Stuff left is about 5' wide and easier to grab. Main pile was about 12' wide, 5' high, 20' deep... gooder... most of this gone. Moved a few of the tops out of their tangled mess, now alongside a trail I can back my small trailer down. One of the 2 rocks I pulled out and carried off. Old spade head came outa the hole too. Nice down there this morning. Gooder to get a little house cleaning done with those brush piles.
