Was waiting for the equipment to warm up. Just a small area left to clean up from a farm clearing so we used the excavator and skid steer instead of hauling in a bunch of equipment. Pulled out about 30-35 cords of wood. Sorry for the crappy pics, worthless iphone camera is all I had. I'm not sure why I even bother with it, a 1980s $5 cardboard camera takes better pics. Can see the mtns in teh back... or as BoggyDave calls them, the "mounts".
That looks like fun Nate. Nice work. Nice weather to be doing it in. Well, at least the sun is out. The temps are a little cool there though eh?
Nice of you to throw up some pictures for us to view. Looks like you had a heavy frost? They would have come out better if you had the sun on your back.
Potatoes I think. It's about 40 acres. There was taters in the field the truck is parked in. Been 15-20* in the morning. Fun... I guess... Could be worse. I'll get some running the feller buncher, delimber, skidder a, etc when I get out at the other site. This was just a cleanup/grubbing all the stumps.
Yeah that is the reason for grubbing. There's 8-10" of topsoil and then gravel. CAn't just doze all the crap off since it would strip too much of the good dirt. Also can't burn, something about it poisioning the dirt for several years.
That field was going to be sold for a subdivsion, guy offered like $250k for the 40 acres. The old timer lady that owned it said NO, NO, NO. It was farm land years and years ago, and it will stay that way. It was sold for 1/2 that to the local farmer. I agree, put the houses elsewhere!
Not that I know of. Potatoes, Broccoli, Carrots, cabbage, cukes, maybe a few other things. Some things are greenhouse grown, they have at least 2 that are probably 4000+ sqft each. http://dnr.alaska.gov/ag/Marketing/FPRogerVanderWeele.pdf Not sure the date on that article, but I believe they plant quite a bit more now. The farm surrounds the shop if you want to look. Just fine my map spot on the mapping deal. Red roof building is the shop, the green ones are the couple houses and the plain tin are mostly farm buildings.
$250k for good dirt near enough to a city for houses on alaska seems cheap? I thought stuff was crazy expensive up there? Yea those are bad I phone pics I thought people loved them and talked about how good the pics are. Do you have it set on poor quality?
Yes, year round, though right now is my busy season. Been working 8AM-8/9PM 7 days a week. Pretty much light to dark. No idea on photo quality, I just click on "camera" and take the picture.
I dont know anything about apple stuff. I'm an android guy. But hit your settings butyon and see what size or resolution the pics are set too? Maybe its set on like text quality? Those are some of the worst iphone pics I have seen
Thanks for sharing Nate. As for the photos, holding the phone as still as possible, is gonna produce a better photo. If I move my phone just a little, it's a blurry pic. Looking forward to pics of the feller buncher and delimber!
No, here in Palmer next to the shop. Have a Timbco feller buncher here, but it's sold. I'd take pictures but its dark.
Is timbco an alaskan cutter? I am a forester that handles logging operations. So I see a lot of equipment and have never heard of that brand?
