Ok gentlemen and ladles. I am under the gun trying to get ready for winter.Im trying to get the wood shed built and have 3 trailer loads of cut stuff needing split.I am working 7/12 right now due to work and other issues.ive been using a friends homemade splitter which has been on permanent loan. The seals have finally died in the cylinder and is leaking oil profusely. Which also lowers my tonnage it can produce to split rounds.I plan to rebuild it before now but that's how life goes.My future plan is to fabricate a copy of the timberwolf tw 6 in the future.I already have a v twin Honda for it.Just no time to build it right now.
So I need to get my wood done.So I have got a little money I can spend.I am looking at the Dirty Hand Tools 27 ton at Menards. They have it on sale till Sunday with an 11% rebate.regular price $1349.00 after rebate she will be $1245.11.
This splitter will do vertical and horizontal, as the one I'm borrowing only does horizontal. Which would make it nice for those big rounds.
They also offer a 4 way wedge kit for it.So I have that option in the future as well.
From what I can tell it looks like a decent machine for they money.I would love to buy a better one but this is about it for my budget right now.i saw some good reviews on another site about them and the company actually was on the forum listening to the people. So that's a plus I guess.
Does anyone here have one right now?

If you are building one, I would suggest renting one for a weekend to get the job done.

Well I see your logic in that but I know the wood won't get split all at once if I'm not there lashing the kids with a whip the whole time:whistle:
So I figure if I buy it and have it I'm not so stressed over getting mine built in a rush.plus it wouldn't be bad to have an xtra machine around.:D

I'd try to find a decent used unit on CL. I got a like new Husky 22 ton for $700. As long as I keep it nice it will always be worth quite a bit.

Splitters hold their value very well. Should be able to sell it easily without loosing a lot in the future.

quite a few reviews on AS, looks like a well thought out machine, perhaps a small step up from Spee Co.

I've been checking craigslist but it seems people think they're old ones deserve new machine prices or the homemade jobs look questionable on thier reliability. Sucks to be a fabricator and pick all this stuff apart.:headbang:

Splitters hold their value extremely well. It is what it is, I bought mine knowing I could sell it in 10 years for the same price I paid slightly used.

This isn't the best time of year to buy a used splitter.

I looked at them the other day. Look pretty decent. I like having doubles of machines. Unfortunately my homemade job is down right now with no backup.

    rottiman,That is one nice unit!
I would have bought one of those if there was any around here.I couldn't find one to even look at.
I didnt want to buy a new splitter right now ,but you do what you have to sometimes.I decided if I was going to buy one i was going to take advantage of the rebate.
I will be picking it up after work tomorrow

Surely you have a TSC in Indiana? I would buy a husky/countryline and save $300! Will split anything you need to split.
