Just getting cold enough for evening fires. So I started loading the wood shed today. Four year old seasoned Red and White oak, Hickory and Sycamore,

Yep, starting to do an evening fire more often, and one in the morning too for the last couple days or so.
Earlier forecast for tonight was calling for a bit of snow, but it's been removed now. Going down to about 35-36. Almost time to load the stove for the night.

Yep it's that time of year, that sounds like a good menu for the stoves to munch on Chief.

I have the basement just about full. I've had a few fires over the last few weeks. But the wood furnace has been going since Saturday afternoon. Not necessarily needed but it feels nice. And well I can!! Red oak, cherry and maple.

Welcome to the nuthouse, RParrotte.....where do you hail from? If you get a sec put your location on your avatar. Red oak, cherry and maple, good mix there.

Welcome to FHC, RParrotte. A basement full of wood? I'd like to see that (pictures, if you please). Good to see you here.

Good start, chief - FOUR year dried wood should be "top shelf" fuel. How much can you fit into your shed?

Northeast NY here. 25 minutes from Canada and VT. I'll get some pics as soon as I can. I don't get much free time to get on here.

Gark, 3 cords if I stuff it. That is an average burn for a winter. Some winters, a little more, so I just pick a nice cold Crisp dry weekend and haul some more in. All my wood is top covered, so it's dry. Just don't like fighting the Stacks in the winter, would rather go to the woodshed, close the door, have a smoke and a cup of coffee, load up my satchel and carry my wood inside. The woodshed.

I think so too... It gets a bad rap sometimes, but it's better than most of the shoulder wood I can get.

That's about the nicest shed I've ever seen...
