I have never seen them in real life so I am checking. Also, YAY! Virginia now has Sunday hunting on private property!
It was a lot of years and many letters and emails written to state senators and delegates. I did my part to get it done.
We have had sunday huntin in my county fer bout 10 years now....its great..we have lots of deer... im in an all agro area..i dk bout that stuff never seen that before..believe the foxes would get that one...
Poor thing! I'd email some pics to your state wildlife agency, they might have a good idea what it is.
Agreed I would maybe go as far as burying it kinda deep. I hunt in md and can shoot a lot of deer legally but if one is questionable I ain't eatin it no way no how.
Area game biologist confirmed they are cutaneous fibromas. Cattle get them as well but they look a little different on a cow and it has been a long time since I have seen a cow with them.
I'm as far from being a farmer as you'll see. In lamens, what is this skin condition you have on that deer?
I havent ever seen it but Wikipedia says they are from bug bites and dont harm the meat at all. Idk though, looks a little much on that one but I dont like to see a deer shot and not get eaten. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitetail_Deer_Cutaneous_Fibroma
You can call them warts. They eventually fall off and the animal looks normal again. The nastiest thing I saw on a deer was... I shot a nice buck but one side of his rack was messed up. I thought to myself, he had an injury on the other side of his body. Well I hang him up to skin him out and start yanking on the hide of the opposite hindquarter from his messed up rack side and a puss sack pops open and covers me in nasty smelling yellow pus. There was about a quart of pus in that hindquarter. Buzzards gotta eat too.
The Chronic Wasting Disease infected white tails at my previous home. Heartbreaking to see them, small, skinny, warts, goiters, and stunted racks. Shame on CSU.
I would have fed the coyotes and buzzards with that one too. Ive skinned out a few that were full of gangrene, nasty stuff.
Been there definitely not fun. I've had one that was hit by a car I think that was real nasty and another one that was shot a good amount of time before I shot it. Both were pretty nasty looking/smelling once the hide was off. Like you said I hate to see it go to waste but peace of mind is more betters.
Interesting If you thought the OP was gross, don't google more about it. And if you do, resist the urge to click "images". Ask me how I know
